Of course, every good BBQ has to have fantastic food. So here are five must-haves for your next summertime BBQ event. We know you and your guests will be thoroughly impressed (plus, even your vegan friends will have something to enjoy.) First, lets start with a recipe for a basic rub that is both versatile and delicious. You can use it to boost flavor and make a beautiful crust on your BBQ goodies.

Basic Rub

Summertime BBQ Recipes _ Bobs Red Mill This recipe only takes 5 minutes of prep time and 30 minutes of cook time. Its dairy free, grain free, gluten free, and soy free, which makes it perfect for almost anyone regardless of their health or dietary needs. It starts with a base of equal parts brown sugar and sea salt, mixed with a smidge of black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. You just combine all the ingredients and sprinkle all over your chosen meat to grill. Youll want to let the meat sit at least 30 minutes before you cook it to let the flavors really settle into the meat.

Honey BBQ Ribz

This recipe is courtesy of veganosity.com and is a delicious alternative for vegan friends and family who love to eat ribs without sacrificing their vegan principles. You could even try using the Basic Rub on them for a twist. These ribs start with a base of mushroom caps, olive oil, and vital wheat gluten. Mushroom broth and low sodium soy sauce, along with peanut or nut butter, hickory flavored liquid smoke, vegan Worcestershire, tomato paste, and roasted beet are combined to help give these ribs flavor and sticking power. They are seasoned with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and of course, salt and pepper. Once youve made them, you can slather them with a homemade BBQ sauce using ketchup and Dijon mustard, as well as vegan honee, apple cider vinegar, and seasonings. This BBQ sauce is both tangy and slightly sweet and savory and is the perfect complement to vegan ribz. Youll need roughly 20 minutes of prep time and 45 minutes of cook time, but in the end, its time well spent.

Nacho Cheese Dip

Whats a great BBQ without some appetizers? This delicious nacho cheese dip is perfect for parties and crowds and can easily be doubled or tripled to suit your needs. The best part is that its super easy and only takes about 10 minutes of prep. Did we mention this dip is healthy and great for guests with food sensitivities or specific dietary needs? Its made with a base of cashews and nutritional yeast, and flavored up with salt, chili powder, paprika, onion and garlic powder and a pinch of Cayenne pepper. Water and a bit of lemon juice are used for mixing to the perfect consistency, and youll need to grind your cashews to a fine powder beforehand. Then you combine all your ingredients, so they are evenly distributed and serve either warm or at room temperature with your favorite vegan chips or even veggies.

Homemade Whole Wheat Buttermilk Biscuits

Everyone loves warm and crusty biscuits and these homemade whole wheat buttermilk biscuits are just the ticket. They are simple and use just a few ingredients, like whole wheat pastry flour, baking powder, salt, butter, and eggs. And of course, buttermilk. You just mix your ingredients to form your dough and use a cookie cutter to cut out your biscuits. Or you can go the old-fashioned route and make horny toad or drop biscuits by dropping spoonfuls of batter onto the pan in whatever shape they make. Then bake them and bust out the toppings. You can serve them warm with your favorite butter or jam or use them to make yummy sandwiches. Pulled-pork biscuits anyone?

Gluten-Free Cheesy Bacon Cornbread

If youre not a biscuit fan and cornbread is more your thing, this is a delicious recipe for cheesy bacon cornbread. The best part is that its gluten free and loaded with healthy nutrition. Its made with a base of gluten free cornbread mix, plus chia seeds and flax meal for a healthy dose of texture and fiber. Butter, eggs, milk or milk substitute, along with applesauce yogurt or cultured coconut milk help complete the ingredient list. Then of course, the really good stuff like cheese or cheese substitute, crispy, crumbled bacon, and corn make up the rest. Combine all the ingredients and make sure the mix isnt too dry. Bake and serve! There you have it. Some great summertime BBQ recipes you can try this week that will please almost all of your fussy eaters. Enjoy!
