Now Organic! Chia Seed is known for its anti-oxidant properties, omega-3 content, and amount of fiber.

Details

Now Organic! Thousands of years ago, chia seed was a staple in the diets of ancient Mayans and Aztecs. The word chia is derived from the Mayan language, meaning "strength," and Aztec warriors relied on chia seeds to boost energy and increase stamina. Today this tiny seed is a favorite of athletes, especially distance runners, who tout it as an endurance enhancing superfood.

Chia seeds contain a wealth of fiber; 5 grams in just one tablespoon. It is the fiber in chia that causes chia seeds to swell when combined with water, creating chia gel. Whether you eat chia gel or just the raw seeds, the hydrophilic action of chia seeds will keep you full longer than many other seeds. Amazingly, chia gel can also be used as a substitute for eggs in many baked goods. Use a proportion of 1 to 6 ratio of Chia Seeds to Water to make chia gel. Use approximately one tablespoon of chia gel to replace one large egg in your baked goods.

The mild, nutty flavor of chia seeds goes well with both sweet and savory dishes. Use chia seeds in puddings and smoothies, sprinkle on top of porridge and salads, and add to baked goods in place of flaxseed meal or poppy seeds. Try our recipe for chia fresca, a refreshing drink perfect for a hot summer day in place of lemonade or use it as pre- or post-workout fuel. Looking for a fool-proof way to get chia into your diet? Make our blueberry refrigerator jam! The gelling nature of chia makes it an ideal (and nutritious) substitute for pectin in jam. No matter the dish, you can increase the nutritional value of any meal with a sprinkle of chia seeds. Learn more about our chia seeds below and buy online today!

chia for chia!!!
Chia seeds are one of the healthiest seeds to eat with iron, protein, minerals that are necessary for optimal body functions. I add mine to my yogurt and have used them when baking banana bread to add a little "crunch". Could be added to salads as well. I prefer the organic ones.

Bob's Chia Seeds are the Best
I have tried other chia seed brands from health food stores, but the prices were always much higher than Bob's. This reflects the honesty which pervades the company; I learned he gave his company to his employees instead of selling out to a large conglomerate. Bob's chia seeds have a more nutty taste and taste fresher.

Excellent base for cold cereal
I use these in a cold seed cereal. I soak them together with hemp seeds and almonds and toasted buckwheat. The chia seeds become soft after 5 or 10 minutes. They taste quite good in my cereal.

I'm new to using chia seeds but I'm all for ensuring I get more calcium, protein and energy from things I am eating in a more natural way. This is another of those things you can easily add to your smoothies, hot cereals, baked goods to add more nutritional benefits to your foods. So glad I can find all my goodies at one place I trust - so thank you Bob's Red Mill!!

I buy organic chia seeds to make seed muesli with equal parts by volume sliced almonds, chia seeds (Bob's), hemp seeds, and kasha (toasted buckwheat) (Bob's). I add date pieces for sweetening (Bob's have great soft texture and flavor, but are not organic), and sometimes goji berries and blueberries or blackberries. I add whole milk, soak for about 10 minutes or more, and then eat. This mix makes a crunchy tasty muesli.

I use them in my homemade granola--the only thing my husband eats for breakfast--and since I've trusted the BRM brand for years, I just decided to add them to my cart since the cost is about what I pay at the local grocery store.

What's the best method for soaking chia seeds?
A shopper on Jan 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Place the chia seeds in boiling water, let them cook for a minute, then place the covered pan in the refrigerator until cooled. They become a sort of gel, and they can be reheated on simmer. I always add a tablespoon of chia seeds to my organic steel cut oats, bring all of it to a boil and place the covered pan in the refrigerator in the evening and heat it the next morning. It cuts off 10 minutes of cooking time in the morning.
