These adorable deer cookies are decorated for the holidays! Use Samantha Chiu's downloadable Deer Cookie Template to cut out these dear deers, and impress everyone with your holiday cookie platter.
Cream together room temperature butter, sugar and salt in a bowl. Once the butter sugar mixture is done, add vanilla extract. Mix in the flour until a dough-like consistency starts to form.
Divide cookie dough in half. Add a few drops of brown gel food coloring to one half of the cookie dough.
Refrigerate cookie dough for 20–30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F.
On a well-floured surface, roll out cookie dough to ⅛-inch thick. Using a paper template, cut out shapes in the brown cookie dough to form the top half of the deer. Then cut out shapes in the regular cookie dough to form the bottom half of the deer, using the template.
Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet 2 inches apart and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
Bake in preheated oven at 350ºF for 7–10 minutes, or until bottoms are lightly golden. Remove cookies from baking sheet and cool on wire racks.
