Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar packed
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1-1/2 cups Applesauce
  • 3 cups Whole Wheat Flour or Organic Whole Wheat Flour (sifted)
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Sea Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts
  • 1 cup Raisins chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly oil a 13" x 9" cookie sheet; set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl cream together the first 2 ingredients (shortening through brown sugar). Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Add the applesauce; blend well. Sift together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices.
  3. Mix the flour alternately into creamed shortening. Add the chopped nuts & raisins; mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool on wire rack. Place in ziplock bag for freshness.



    Makes 2 dozen cookies.
