Textured Vegetable Protein is made from soybeans. Use it as a or meat extender vegetarian meat substitute in virtually any recipe calling for ground beef or turkey. Great for tacos, meatloaf, chili, sloppy joes and more.

Details

Textured Vegetable Protein is a highly nutritious soy product. It is incredibly wealthy in complete protein and contains no fat, so it is an excellent alternative to meat. TVP® is made from defatted soy flour that has been cooked under pressure and then dried. TVP® is naturally gluten-free and is handled and packaged in our separated, dedicated gluten-free facility. It is routinely tested for cross contamination using R5 ELISA testing protocol to ensure its gluten-free status.

Although TVP® doesn't add much flavor, it's low in fat and calories, contains a wealth of complete soy protein and it's a good source of dietary fiber. Soy contains complete protein with all the amino acids essential to human nutrition, which must be supplied in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the human body. It is also a good source of iron, magnesium and phosphorus.

Use TVP® as an extender in meat or protein patties and meatloaf, stews and soups. It works great as a protein additive for health bars, salads, cereals, baked potatoes and stuffing. It is very easy to prepare and takes on the flavor of whatever recipe to which it is added, making it an incredibly versatile addition to a wide variety of dishes. Adding TVP® to your favorite cooked dishes is a tasty and simple way to take advantage of soy's bountiful nutrition. Don't forget to try our delicious Country Chili recipe on the back of the package!

TVP® is a registered trademark of Archer-Daniels-Midland Co.

Great meat substitute
This product makes it so much easier to be vegan in a small town that is severely lacking in vegan options. We use this to make ‘burgers’ and vegan sausage patties. It adds a great texture and chewiness which gives us greater variety in our diet when we desire something more than beans without the cruelty associated with animal production.

Substitute for Ground Beef
I decided to try TVP in an effort to reduce fat content of beef and gain the fiber in TVP, missing in beef. I had heard you couldn't tell the difference, which isn't quite true, but it's very close. I tried it in chili and spaghetti with very good results. By using foods, like this, with reduced saturated fat, I have lost about 15 pounds in 3 months without any other changes.

TVP - Great meat replacement.
I love Bob's Red Mill TVP! It's a great meat replacement. I love using this in dishes like spaghetti, tacos, chili, and making meatloaf as well.
The texture is perfect and I know that I am getting an organic product with the best ingredients with no added color, sugar, our chemicals added.

Fooled my meat-loving mother-in-law!
Absolutely love this! And so easy to use! I used a 1 cup TVP to 1 cup boiling water plus 1 tsp. veggie bouillon paste, 1 1/2 tsp. liquid smoke, and 1 tsp. gravy master. Sit for 5 minutes and ready to use in place of meat in tacos, spaghetti bolognese, etc! My mother-in-law was none the wiser! I also add 1/2 tsp. each of dried thyme leaves and ground sage before adding to the frying pan to brown a little.

I recently learned some of the benefits of using TVP instead of ground beef, especially fat and saturated fat content and want to try it in several recipes. We've been using several Bob's Red Mill hot cereals for the past 20 years (in 25 lb bags) and have always been pleased with them.

For individuals on a low-carbohydrate diet--especially those who are vegetarians and therefore unwilling/unable to partake of breakfast meats, this makes an excellent, protein-rich hot cereal. Reconsitute the TVP in liquid ( I prefer allmond milk), add nuts (and fruit if you're not diabetic) some cinnamon, nutmeg, or pumpkin pie spice. Microwave, add sweetener (I prefer Torani Sugar-Free syrups), stir, add a dash of cream or creamer, and you've got a fine and filling breakfast--quick!

Hi there. Can you tell me what is used for the drafting process ? I e is hexane used? Thank you
A shopper on Oct 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: TVP is solvent extracted. Solvent is used to get the oil out of the soybean. Solvent is removed prior to texturizing. The solvent used in this chemical process is hexane.

Can TVP be added to a muffin recipe?
jan L on Apr 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This isn't a recipe addition we've tested but if you do please share your results! I would recommend you hydrate the TVP, squeeze out the excess moisture, then add to your muffin batter and bake normally.
Is the TVP made in a nut free facility? If not what nuts are you processing in the facility?
karla s on Apr 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: No, our TVP is processed in a facility that also processes almonds, hazelnuts, cashews, coconut, macadamia nuts, soy, oats, sesame seeds, and corn ingredients on shared lines. Despite thorough and stringent cleaning processes there is a possibility for cross contact.
