Ingredients

Oat Milk Hot Cocoa
  • 4 cups filtered Water (1000 mL)
  • 1 cup Gluten Free Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (110 g)
  • 4 Tbsp Dutch-process Cocoa Powder
  • 3 Tbsp packed Brown Sugar, plus more if desired
  • ¼–½ cup finely chopped Dairy-Free Dark Chocolate or Chocolate Chips
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • ⅛ tsp Salt
Optional Toppings
  • Dairy-free Whipped Cream
  • Vegan Marshmallows
  • Shaved Chocolate
  • Chocolate Sprinkles
  • A dusting of Cocoa Powder

Instructions

  1. Combine water and oats in a high-powered blender. Blend on high for 30–45 seconds. Pour through a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth.

  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the oat milk until hot but not boiling.

  3. Reduce heat to low and add cocoa powder, brown sugar, chopped chocolate, vanilla and salt.

  4. Whisk until the chocolate and sugar have fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.

  5. Remove from heat and ladle into mugs. Add your favorite toppings and serve immediately.

Tips
  1. For a classic hot cocoa, use ¼ cup chopped chocolate. For a richer version, use up to ½ cup.

  2. Any unsweetened cocoa powder will work, but Dutch-process cocoa gives the richest color and smoothest flavor, and dissolves easily.
