Organic Spelt Flour is 100% stone ground from a delicious, easily digestible grain that is a primitive relative of modern day wheat. This organic whole grain flour can be used in most recipes calling for wheat flour, and is a good source of fiber.

Details

Savor the whole grain goodness of spelt, an ancient relative of durum wheat that originated in the Near East over 8,000 years ago. This heirloom grain later spread throughout Europe, becoming especially popular in Germany, where it was farmed throughout the Middle Ages. Our whole grain Organic Spelt Flour is freshly milled on cool and slow turning, century-old stone-buhr millstones. Spelt has a unique nutty flavor and, because of its high water solubility, its vital nutrients are quickly absorbed into the body.

Spelt has never been hybridized, so it has retained many of its original characteristics from antiquity, including complex flavor and whole-grain nutrition. Spelt is unusual because it can be more easily digested than other forms of wheat, and some people with wheat intolerances may be able to tolerate spelt; however, spelt is not gluten free. High in fiber and a good source of iron and manganese, our Organic Spelt Flour is incredibly nutritious.

Bob's Red Mill Stone Ground Organic Spelt Flour can be used in most recipes calling for wheat flour, especially yeast and quick breads. Spelt flour makes excellent pasta, cookies and other baked goods.

Spelt replaces wheat in all my recipes with a richer flavor and texture. I can't tolerate wheat and missed the yeast breads. Spelt rises better than wheat for me. Even my family likes it.

I have been using organic whole grain spelt for several years. It has a milder flavor than whole wheat flour and some of my friends that can't handle wheat flour can eat spelt four. I have been able to substitute spelt flour in all my recipes.

Love the spelt flour, have made bread, biscuits and biscotti and have not had the abdominal tenderness I have with regular wheat flour. Not sure if it is the lower gluten, the lower protein, or the fact that it is organic and not doused with herbicides, but it is delightful.. I will be using spelt flour exclusively, from now on.

Because after making the muffin recipe on the back of the bag, substituting the brown sugar with coconut flour, I am SOLD!! Being on a Candida Diet I was told to only eat Spelt or Buckwheat breads. Not only are they difficult to find but they are usually filled with cheaper, less nutritious things such as rice of potato starch. Potatoes are forbidden on this diet. So I'll keep baking my own. Last night warm w/butter alongside an Italian inspired salad. Today-w/ham & cheese warmed in the oven. 😊

This ancient flour is great for our digestive track. I’m baking bread for my grandchildren to avoid the bleach used in white flour, removing the sugars and preservatives. We all think this is a great tasting choice.

Spelt flour is non GMO and this means no toxic pesticides. Spelt flour is whole grain and so more nutritious than white flour. Spelt flour has less gluten than conventional flour and should be easier to digest.

This version of Wheat I believe is the original wheat flour, and it doesn't give us the swollen bellies that regular wheat flour gives us. It really helps for those that have wheat allergies...at least in my house...
