Add a little adventure to everyday meals with teff, a tiny whole grain that has been a staple of traditional Ethiopian cooking for thousands of years. Whole Grain Teff (Tef, T'ef) an ancient East African cereal grass, is a nutritional powerhouse. It is the smallest grain in the world (about 100 grains are the size of a kernel of wheat!). The germ and bran, where the nutrients are concentrated, account for a larger volume of the seed compared to more familiar grains.

With a mild, nutty flavor and lots of calcium, protein and fiber, whole grain teff is a great addition to porridge, stews, pilaf or baked goods. Cooked whole grain teff makes a unique hot breakfast cereal similar in consistency and texture to wheat farina. Teff can be made into polenta, added to veggie burgers, cakes, cookies and breads. Naturally gluten free, teff is a wonderful way to mix up your menu with something a bit exotic.

    I made Teff Polenta with simply butter and salt and poured into a 9x13 pan and chilled overnight. The next morning I diced and fried up bacon in a pan, transferred to a paper towel, increased the heat to medium and fried the Polenta squares in the bacon fat, lowered the heat again, fried an egg, and then tossed in the hot pan to warm some fresh diced tomatoes and baby asparagus I got from my garden. I topped the fried Polenta squares with a slice of cheddar cheese, a fried egg, bacon bits, and the fresh warmed diced tomatoes and baby asparagus. It was perfect! The egg provided a lovely sauce, the dish was colorful and very flavorful! It was good! Family approved!!

    I tried Teff for the first time this morning. I made the Teff Porridge recipe on the package substituting fresh bananas for the dates. I didn't really care for the porridge. I poured the leftover porridge into a glass dish, pressed toasted pecans into the top and chilled it. After lunch, I cut "bars" from the chilled porridge, sprinkled cinnamon, and drizzled honey over top. It made a great dessert! We really liked eating it that way!

    Tried Teff for the 1st time this a.m. Made Teff Porridge (recipe on label) omitting the dates. Husband & I both enjoyed it. Similar to Cocoa Wheats in texture & appearance, but flavor is mildly nutty & sweet. Looking forward to trying it in other recipes.

    I am new to "Teff". I bought the brown variety because it reminded me of Cocoa Wheat cereal. I like it as a hot cereal with sugar free cashew milk. Great taste and healthy!!

    Really delicious! I made the porridge recipe on the label with molasses instead of honey, and topped it with a bit of margarine, walnuts, and rice milk! Very good, not boring porridge!

    Being a Gluten-Free, Vegan, I find myself eating lots of salads! LOL!     I haven't gotten into making other dishes with this because it is so good plain. It is my favorite hot cereal with just a pinch of sea salt and a pat of butter. Everybody who I have made some for has 1) never seen it before and 2)likes the nutty flavor. Tastes great and good for you...what a combination!

    I love teff. It has as much protein (7 gm) as an egg, is gluten free, and has a nutty, molasses like flavor, unlike any other grain. It cooks in just 15 minutes. I cook it with cinnamon, allspice and cardamon, and serve it with milk and nuts, creating a breakfast that lasts me all morning. It is also tasty cooked with broth for a side dish, or add some of the uncooked grain into your next soup.

    I am so glad I picked up this product. It is incredible. It has a delicious sweet and nutty flavor. With a crisp texture that is similar to quinoa. I ate it for breakfast with a tablespoon of honey and a splash of milk.||YUM!
