Organic Quinoa Grain is a nutritional powerhouse that originated in South America, high on the plateaus of the Andes, where it was honored as a sacred crop by the ancient Incas. It is a good source of iron and high-quality protein. Whole grain quinoa has mild flavor and is well suited to pilafs, salads, soups and stir fries.

Quinoa (prounounced keen-wa) was a staple food for the South American Indians living in the high altitudes of the Andes Mountains. It was immensely popular because it was one of few crops that could survive in such high altitudes (10,000 - 20,000 feet above sea level). It could withstand frost, intense sun and the often dry conditions that characterized the Andean climate. It was also recognized for its superior nutritional qualities. For these reasons, it was dubbed "mother of all grains" by the Incas, so much so that it came to have spiritual significance for them. Many traditions and ceremonies surrounded the cultivation, harvest and consumption of quinoa.

Quinoa is a pseudo-grain‚ actually a gluten-free seed, but used in cooking like a whole grain. This nutrient-rich grain is a wonderful source of complete protein, providing all of the essential amino acids. It is also a good source of dietary fiber. Naturally gluten free, this powerful little grain is a great addition to any diet, but is an ideal solution for those following a gluten free, vegan or vegetarian diet that are looking to increase their protein and fiber.

Quinoa is delicious on its own and the earthy flavor of quinoa makes it ideal for pilafs, soups and salads. Unlike many whole grains, quinoa takes very little time to prepare and can be substituted anywhere whole grains are used. It is a nutritious alternative to couscous and white rice in most recipes.     It adopts the flavor of whatever you cook it with so you can't lose. It takes a while for the seed to soften and open so I cook it in a small rice steamer for lazy cooking. My favorite is quinoa with frozen spinach or broccoli w/ leaves on, chicken stock, tomato, onion and sometimes cod fish all thrown in and cooked together. Super simple and delicious! Just occasional stirring, no muss no fuss.||

    This grain has replaced rice in our house and slowly is replacing pasta !! We love it adults and kids ..... I cook mine with a little chicken broth but I'm sure vegetable beff or anyflovor would work .....     Had tried a different Brand of Quinoa and found it bitter (hadn't washed it enough it seems). Took a cooking class on 'exotic' grains at a local grocery store and they said the ONLY brand to buy is Bob's Red Mill as it is PRE-WASHED and there won't be any bitter taste! Thank you Bob!

    I discovered Quinoa in a warehouse club. I had heard it was healthy and decided to give it a try. It has been a staple in our kitchen since. We eat Quinoa once or twice a week.     Having a gluten-free diet is hard. I have substituted Quinoa for many pasta dishes and cool salad dishes. There is a ton of protein in this grain plus a low GI. It is a true grain that has not been altered. I love this grain!

    Quinoa is one of the most versatile and delicious grains I have come across. The first time I cooked it for my kids, I told them they were little pasta balls...and it worked! I love to cook it in a vegan broth. One of my new favorite ways to prepare is with fresh salsa and black beans. Fresh salsa is a must!! The cilantro adds an amazing flavor.     I tried Quinoa after seeing it on a list of "healthiest foods". I LOVE to have Quinoa with steamed broccoli, or diced tomatoes. This has completely replaced rice in my house!

    I started using quinoa after finding out I have Celiac. Many call it a grain, but, in fact, it's a seed. Love to stir fry veggies and add a half cup cooked quinoa for protein. I also use it in soups instead of rice.

    I've never had quinoa before I purchased this. I've been consuming Bob's Red Mill products for a few years and have never had a bad experience. I am trying to eat more whole grains and of course have heard about quinoa. I made it for the first time today and I was floored.
