Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Stir together flour and baking powder in a bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually add in the dry ingredients.
  4. Roll out the dough to a thin layer and cut out trees and circles and place onto a parchment covered cookie sheet.
  5. Cut out small squares in the middle of the circles big enough to accommodate the base of your tree, make them bigger then you think as the cookie will grow when baked.
  6. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.
  7. Let stand on cookie sheet 2-5 minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
  8. Place the trees right upside into the holes in the circles as a base, if the hole is to small use the edge of a sharp knife to make it bigger.
  9. Place the trees on a platter, dust with confectioners sugar and serve.
