Basic Preparation Instructions for Barley Grits/Meal

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Water
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Barley Grits

Instructions

Stovetop
  1. Bring water and salt to a boil. Add grits turn heat to low. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with milk and honey, and add fruit or nuts if you please.
Single Serving
  1. Bring 3/4 cup water to a boil (with a pinch of salt, if desired). Add 1/4 cup cereal, reduce heat to low, cover and let cook to desired consistency, 5-7 minutes.
Microwave
  1. In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup cereal and 3/4 cup water (add a pinch of salt, if desired). Microwave on high for 3-5 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes. Serves 1.
Slow Cooker
  1. Combine 1 cup cereal with 2 1/4 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt in slow cooker. Cook on low heat for 1 1/2 hours. If possible, stir occasionally. Serves 4.
