Our Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats are made from kiln toasted, whole grain oat groats that have been cut into neat little pieces on a steel burr mill. They are a good source of fiber and offer 7 grams of protein per serving. Makes a delightfully full-bodied porridge that is sure to satisfy your hunger. Top with classic additions like butter and brown sugar, or think "outside the bowl" and go with savory toppings like peanut butter and sriracha hot sauce!

At last, oats that people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance can enjoy, too! Each farm delivery we receive is sampled hundreds of times and tested with an R5 ELISA gluten test to ensure the absence of gluten. Advanced color-sorting removes undetected impurities. Roasting enhances that wholesome robust flavor you expect. Finally, the oats are packaged in our 100% gluten free facility and tested for gluten again to ensure their purity. Although a tiny fraction of the population cannot tolerate even the purest gluten free oats, most will find oats to be a deliciously welcomed addition to their diets. If you're unsure, please consult first with your doctor.

Magic Oatmeal
I serve oatmeal as follows: one tablespoon of quinoa, one of teff, one of flax, one of sunflower seeds, on of hemp, one of chia seeds, one of organic trail mix, and one of oatmeal to which I add tumeric, cinnamon, and ground black pepper. I microwave it for 20 minutes, then serve with banana, blueberries and milk. It is delicious.

Loved them but recently they have have not been as fresh.
I loved Bob's Red Mill gluten free steel cut Oats and so did my family but unfortunately the last four I bought were not that fresh. I did contact the company and they sent me four free bags but they were not fresh either. So recently I have switched brands.

Great Product!
Love my oats! Eat them every day and can't say enough good things about them. I make mine with milk instead of water. Tastes better and that way I still get my calcium.

Becoming a staple for me. Prefer Steel Cut over other kinds of more mushy oats/oatmeals. It can be combined with many things from fruits to nuts. Add Flax meal for added Omega3, etc.

is the oat variety used for gluten free steele cut oats different than the non-gluten free variety?
A shopper on Oct 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, the oat variety is the same however the gluten free oats require special care to ensure that they are safely free from gluten. Bob's Red Mill only sources from oat suppliers who are committed to practices for eliminating the presence of gluten. Our suppliers are innovative in controlling the presence of gluten by either avoiding crop rotation with gluten containing grains or using optical sorting technology to remove grain containing gluten.
Is there a difference in taste between the gluten-free, organic, or regular steel cut oats?

BEST ANSWER: Hi! No, there is no taste difference between the different types of steel cut oats.
When cooking the gluten free steel cut oats, the water in which I cook the oats turns slight green. Why?
A shopper on Jan 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: What you are seeing is completely safe and edible, though it doesn’t happen very often.
This color change is due to iron in water reacting with phenolic acid that is naturally occurring in the outside layer of an oat groat (kernel). Sometimes, if you cook oats with water containing ferrous iron, a green gray color will appear on the surface because of this reaction.
Here is a great link to a detailed explanation about this phenomenon produced by the US Department of Agriculture.
