4 Kid-Friendly Snack Ideas Everyone Will Love

By: Bob's Red Mill | August 25 2017

Eating healthy snacks are important at any age, as snacking can help you stay full, focused, and energized throughout the day. As adults, it’s easier to pick up a piece of fruit, make some almond butter toast, mix up some greek yogurt with dried fruit, or eat a healthy energy bar, but finding snacks for kids that are both tasty and healthy can often be difficult. Give them a packaged product, and they might enjoy it, but it could be loaded with unnecessary sugars, additives or chemicals, that don’t exactly give them much of the nutrition they need. Share some of your “adult” snacks with them, and they might be scared off by flaxseeds or all those nuts.

Making a healthy snack for kids requires the perfect balance of being nutritious and tasty.  The key to coming up with the perfect snacks is choosing ingredients that are as delicious as they are nourishing. You probably won’t be able to get your child to eat the same things you do, but that doesn’t mean you should revert right back to grocery store options. Making your own snacks at home can help you control what ingredients go into these foods, and although they might not be as perfectly healthy as you would hope, they’re better than just sticking a bag of potato chips into your children’s lunch box. Hide some veggies or protein powder into a delicious smoothie or milkshake after school, make some fun cracker arrangements with your kids while they are doing homework. Whatever you choose to make, you will feel comfortable knowing the ingredients that you are feeding your child.

Coming up with these ideas on your own can be hard, but luckily, we’re here to help. Here are four kid-friendly snack ideas to test out.

Low Carb Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes

If your child loves sweets and craves foods like cinnamon rolls or sweet white breads, then they’ll love these Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes. These donut holes are low carb and use a sugar alternative making them the perfect sweet treat without causing too much of a sugar high. The almond flour replacement makes them a low carb choice while still maintaining the same delicious flavor for the perfect snack idea.

Made with just Bob’s Red Mill Flaxseed Meal, water, salt, and pepper, these crackers are as nutritious as they are flavorful, plus, they take just 30 minutes to bake. The fiber and healthy fat in the flax seeds will help keep your child energized and satiated all day, without having to worry about any sudden sugar crashes. You can also experiment with mixing in different spices and herbs to keep your kids on their toes with different unique flavors.

Cherry Date Nut Bars

Bob’s Red Mill Cherry Date Nut Bars make the perfect grab and go meal. Children love their sweet flavor and parents love that they’re naturally sweetened with dates - no added sugar necessary. No-Bake Chewy Granola Butterscotch Bars

Granola bars are the ultimate snack, and there’s no reason why you can’t make your own kid-friendly version at home. These No-Bake Chewy Granola Butterscotch Bars are made with peanut butter, Bob’s Red Mill Regular Rolled Oats, our Wheat Bran, and butterscotch chips for some added sweetness. They’re rich and chewy thanks to the peanut butter and butterscotch chips, but they will keep your kids powered up since there’s so much fiber, protein, and healthy fat.
