If you’re tired of feeding your kids the same breakfast cereal every day, read on! We’re here to help you spice things up.

Healthy Breakfast Ideas

From pancakes to smoothies to donuts, we’ve rounded up some of our most well-loved and kid-approved breakfast ideas below. These recipes are not only sure to please the kids, but they’re also fun to make and to eat for adults, too.

Blueberry Barley Pinwheel Scones

This combination of blueberry jam and poppy seeds in these Blueberry Barley Pinwheel Scones is a tasty breakfast for kids (especially on the weekends when they can help to make them). They’re made with Organic Unbleached White All-Purpose Flour, barley flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, unsalted butter, half and half, blueberry jam and poppy seeds. The kids will enjoy using their hands to gently shape the scones into even rounds before they’re baked. Refrigerate them for 20-30 minutes while the oven preheats (or wrap the dough and refrigerate for up to one day). When you’re ready to pop them in the oven, remove them from the fridge and bake until the bottoms are lightly browned. Serve them warm or at room temperature with your kids’ favorite morning beverage.

Bob’s Homemade Granola

Bob's Homemade Granola recipe has been a company favorite for decades (and still is). It’s a recipe that can be found on our packages of shredded coconut and is made with a magical combination of regular rolled oats, shredded coconut, wheat germ, shelled sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chopped walnuts and more. With its mix of butter, honey, raisins and vanilla extract, this granola has a subtle creamy sweetness that is incredible eaten on its own or used as a topping for yogurt. Kids love it served with just milk or eaten by the handful as a breakfast snack. Instead of purchasing store bought and sugar-filled breakfast cereals, opting to make your own is surprisingly easy.

Gluten Free Chorizo, Egg and Sausage Breakfast Biscuits

These Gluten Free Chorizo, Egg and Sausage Breakfast Biscuits combine all the best breakfast flavors into one. They’re made with Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, browned chorizo sausage, scrambled eggs, milk, melted butter and sharp cheddar cheese. If you’d like, these biscuits can even be made ahead of time, frozen and saved for later. They’re wonderful for big holidays and family gatherings when mornings might feel hectic, but you still want something tasty and homemade for the kids to enjoy. Plus, these breakfast biscuits don’t carry any of the unnecessary added ingredients that some premade store-bought alternatives do.

Creamy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Healthy Breakfast Ideas for Kids _ Bob’s Red Mill

Oatmeal created with steel cut oats is a wonderful and nutritious breakfast alternative to sugar-filled cereals. This Creamy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal is made in a Philips Multi Cooker (stovetop instructions are also included) and takes 40 minutes of hands-off time to cook. Let the kids help add the ingredients (like apple cider, cream, chopped apple and cinnamon). When the oatmeal is finished cooking, stir well, then serve with a drizzle of extra cream and cinnamon. It might take a few moments longer to make your own oatmeal, but the rewards are so worth it. If you’re running out the door and don’t have time to wait for your oatmeal to cook, try one of our organic instant oatmeal cups and add cinnamon and apples for an added bonus.

Carrot Cake Pancakes

These delectable and kid-approved Carrot Cake Pancakes are made with milk, egg, oil, Gluten Free Pancake Mix, cinnamon, nutmeg, finely shredded carrot, golden raisins and chopped walnuts. As an extra weekend bonus, there’s a cream cheese frosting that can be served alongside the warm pancakes. Serve these with a side of cheesy scrambled eggs with kale or spinach for a big and balanced breakfast. If you’re not gluten free, find another pancake mix the whole family will love.

Buttermilk Currant Scones

These Buttermilk Currant Scones are tender, flaky and whole grain. Although you can certainly eat them with a bit of butter or jam, they taste just as good when eaten plain. All you need so far as ingredients are Whole Wheat Pastry Flour, cane sugar, baking powder, salt, cold butter, currants, whisked eggs and buttermilk. From there, you can work together as a family to whip up a creation that everyone will enjoy. Once the dough is prepared, transfer it to a baking sheet, cut into eight pieces (like a pie) and bake until golden-brown. Serve hot and enjoy.

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

With only five ingredients, this Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie is so easy to make (and so delicious) that you might find the kids going into the cupboards to get the ingredients themselves. With Pea Protein Powder, milk, peanut butter, banana and ice, ingredients are combined in a blender and puréed until smooth. For a fun variation, you can also top this smoothie with sliced strawberries and granola, or anything else you’d like. This smoothie tastes like a dream and brings with it natural sugars (as opposed to added sugar and sweeteners from ready-made versions).

Banana Barley Biscuits

Who says biscuits can only be savory? These Banana Barley Biscuits are a kid-friendly crowd pleaser in the morning with a mug of hot chocolate or warm almond milk. They’re made with ingredients like mashed bananas, ground cinnamon, rolled barley flakes, Unbleached White All-Purpose Flour and egg whites. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar before baking and bake until golden brown.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Oatmeal

This Peanut Butter and Jelly Oatmeal is packed full of protein and fiber and is so delicious. It takes 10 minutes to throw together and is a fan favorite among kids of all ages. It incorporates a bit of peanut butter stirred into the banana oatmeal, with peanut and jelly swirled on top, too. As the headnote states, you can even sprinkle your oatmeal with some extra peanuts or 0add a dollop of crunchy peanut butter too, if you like a bit of added crunch.

Fluffy Gluten Free Waffles

These Fluffy Gluten Free Waffles are light and yummy for weekday or weekend breakfasts with kids. This recipe uses our Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour and you can feel free to incorporate cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice for an extra bit of seasonal flavor. If you have a more adventurous child, you can try making the waffles out of cassava flour. Once you’ve taken your warmed waffles out of the waffle iron, top them with fresh berries, warm cinnamon apples or whatever is in season.

Healthy Chocolate Protein Pancakes

In a kid’s world, does it get any better than chocolate and pancakes? These Healthy Chocolate Protein Pancakes are fluffy, beautiful and packed with plant-based protein and fiber in each bite. They’re created with wholesome ingredients like Chocolate Protein Powder Nutritional Booster for a nutritious breakfast that will keep kids feeling fueled up and energized throughout the day. Top your pancakes with sliced strawberries and bananas for a decadent breakfast that almost resembles a chocolate-filled dessert.

Orange Juiciest Smoothie

If your kids want a tall glass of orange juice in the morning, consider opting for something more filling and nutrition-packed like this Orange Juiciest Smoothie. This smoothie is a fantastic source of protein and fiber and is also rich in iron and omega-3 fatty acids. Printed on our bags of Vanilla Protein Powder Nutritional Booster, it’s a good go-to for a quick weekday smoothie before school.

Baked Lemon Blueberry Donuts

If you find yourself heading toward the donut case at the bakery, you might want to consider making your own. Donuts are fun to create with kids at home, where you can control what ingredients and how much sugar you’re putting into them. This recipe for Baked Lemon Blueberry Donuts is especially fun in the spring and summer months. It’s made using our Organic Unbleached White All-Purpose Flour as the base, followed by ingredients like lemon zest, lemon juice and fresh blueberries.

Whether you’re looking for an easy healthy breakfast like smoothies or something a bit more time-consuming like a big batch of homemade pancakes or waffles, we hope this list has you feeling hungry and inspired.
