Our endlessly popular Gluten Free Brownie Mix was reformulated and repackaged in 2015 to bring you even moister, richer, brownies with an improved taste and texture! Just follow three simple steps on the back of the package and you'll have warm and delicious gluten free brownies in only about 30 minutes! All you need from your kitchen is 3 eggs and 1/2 cup butter. These brownies are stellar on their own, but we like to encourage creativity, so make them your own by adding your favorite mix-ins. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Nuts: walnuts, pecans, or almonds
  • Baking chips: chocolate, peanut butter, white chocolate, mint, or butterscotch
  • Nut butters: peanut, almond, or cashew ; drizzle nut butter over brownie batter in the pan; use a knife to swirls
  • Dried fruits: cherries, raspberries, currants, coconut flakes
  • Spices and flavors: Cinnamon, orange extract, instant coffee powder, cayenne pepper powder

  1. Too sweet!!

    by Kathy on 05 Tue,2017

Great texture but waaaaay too sweet.

  2. Figured it out!

    by bensmom on 05 Sun,2017

I made these a couple of times replacing the butter with coconut oil. They seemed to have too much oil. After researching butter and coconut oil I found that butter is 20% water. So this time I used a half cup that was 80% coconut oil and 20% water. Bingo! The batter was just as it should be and they came out fantastic with about 8 extra minutes in the oven. My kids don't need GF but they thought they were fantastic!!

  3. Better than I expected

    by RecentlyGFree on 04 Mon,2017

My daughter and I have recently become gluten free. I was so happy to find this product. Took one bite, and this tasted no different than any brownie I've had before. Thanks BRM! Keep up the good work.

  4. Bad rap, include coconut oil

    by Ashby on 03 Thu,2017

I bought this on a whim, as Bob's Red Mill is my go to and after reading all the reviews was pretty bummed about making this. So glad to have caught one review about including coconut oil. My family, who thinks "gluten free, gross" all were so taken aback. Especially considering this was the first time I've ever made brownies. They were a hit and I'll definitely purchase this brownie mix again!

  5. great texture but very sweet

by middling scholar on 02 Mon,2017

I've been following an Ayurvedic eating plan for a while now and I picked up these brownies because they didn't contain wheat, which i'm avoiding. I substituted coconut oil for the butter and they came out fantastic -- perfect fudgy, chewy texture. However, they are much too sweet for my taste (either because sugar is the #1 listed ingredient, or because i have added a lot of bitter foods in my diet, or both). I would appreciate a similar baking mix but without sugar already in it, so that I could adjust the quantity a bit and/or experiment with other sweeteners (maple sugar, maybe?)

  6. Bring back the old recipe - please

by Allergy Mom on 11 Mon,2016

I am down to my last packages of your "old" or "original" brownie mix and am truly saddened. Because I try not to feed my child who is allergic to wheat so much rice (it seems most gluten free product are mainly rice) your brownie, pancake and cake mixes had been a staple in our house for the last ten years because they did not contain rice. However, with the change you have made to incorporate rice into these mixes I am sad to have to find a new mix for us to use. Hopefully, you will consider bringing some of your rice free - gluten free products back for those of us avoiding rice and some of its negative aspects.

  7. "New" is not a improvement

    by Boneyfingers on 11 Tue,2016

Your gluten free Brownie Mix was one of my favorites, the new formula is not nearly as good...too sweet, doesn't bake as evenly, doesn't cut as well, crumbly...just a big disappointment

  8. Vegan Version-No oil

by Vegan in Jersey City, NJ on 11 Tue,2016

I was so worried these brownies would not turn out but they are amazing! I can't have oil due to health issues, so I used 3/4 c unsweetened applesauce and 1/4 c unsweetened almond milk to replace the eggs and butter. I used a smaller pan for a thicker brownie. I believe they baked for about an hour before it was okay to take them out of the oven. They are oooey goooey and amazingly good. Each serving has less than 3 grams of fat and even though I did not use oil, i still managed to cut them and remove them from the pan. I am so happy that I can eat brownies again!

  9. Awesome!

    by jeffl1107 on 10 Mon,2016

Wow, that's good! I started a gluten free diet about 6 months ago and my wife brought this home for me. I added chocolate chips to it but have to say I did not need to do it. I really think this mix is great.

  10. It's good

    by JNo on 08 Wed,2016

Mine wasn't fudgy at all. It was a little dry, but not bad overall. I'll definitely try it again.

  11. Absolutely delish!!!

by Just me on 08 Tue,2016

My entire family luv them!! Superb. Easy to put together. We do ours with a mix of white and dark choc and pecans. Yum!!

  12. Best Brownies Ever!

by gone gluten free on 07 Sat,2016

I have never tried the old BRM GF Brownie Mix; however, I can unequivocally state that the new GF mix makes some of the best brownies I've ever eaten. My niece, who also eats gluten free, agrees. The only change I made to the mix was to add 1/2 package of Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Chips and about 1 cup of dried cherries.

I cut the brownies into 18 rectangles, put each in a Ziploc snack sized bag, and kept them refrigerated. They remained moist and delicious for one week. That cannot be said about most gluten free baked goods which often become dry and stale within 2 days.

    Great job, Bob's Red Mill!

  13. So Yum!

    by SaucyGalNYC on 07 Fri,2016

I made these for a friend who is dairy/gluten free.
I used coconut oil instead of butter. Used a nearly 8x8 pan. Was PERFECT!
Crispy top and fudgy, delicious inside.

  14. Love them

    by Callie on 06 Wed,2016

Vegan style: In place of regular butter, used almond butter. Left out the eggs. Added rolled oats, flax meal and raisins. Used soymilk to mix batter. Instead of using one large pan, I made drop cookies. Turn out great. Delicious.

  15. Delicious

    by Banjo on 06 Tue,2016

Crispy outside, rich fudgy inside, will buy again

  16. Decent brownies if you ask me

    by Shangella on 06 Wed,2016

The flavour is very good. The texture is not perfect but way better than most other brownie mixes i've tried. I replaced 1/4 of the butter with 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce.

  17. Love them!

    by MaggieSue on 05 Tue,2016

I think that they are better than most home made "non" gluten free brownies.....Love them.

  18. Love at First Bite!

    by I Love Brownies on 03 Wed,2016

Just tried this gluten free brownie mix with just a couple changes & additions: added 1/4 c mini choc chips, 1/2 c chopped pecans and 1-1/2 TBSP espresso powder. Made 3 doz mini muffin brownie bites. Wow, the office tribe devoured them and demanded more or else!

  19. My mistake

    by Organicguy68 on 03 Thu,2016

Added organic apple sauce instead of eggs. Used organic cocoa butter. Only mistake, using a 8*8 pan. Middle was soft. Will try the chocolate cake next time.

  20. Could be better

    by Anne on 02 Sun,2016

Too sweet. I can't eat eggs. Used egg replacer and cooked an extra 10 minutes in an 8x8 pan and they didn't cook fully in the middle. Middle was goo.

    Hello Anne,

We apologize that your egg free brownies did not turn out. Here is a recipe suggestion for Vegan Brownies (follow exactly, do not add ingredients listed on package)
o Combine ½ cup pureed silken tofu and ¼ cup water. Add the tofu mixture to the contents of a 21oz/595g package of GF Brownie Mix and mix until well combined, about 3 minutes. Evenly spread mixture into a well-oiled 9x9-inch square pan and bake at 325F (160C) until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 45 – 60 minutes. 21. Fudgy bean-free fun!

by Gf girl on 02 Mon,2016

my twin went gluten free years ago. And i tried but there was 'nothing to eat' We tried but decided to avoid the mixes before because of the bean flours... complete with bean side effects... eww. years passed... Having recently decided to forgo gluten to rid myself of inflammation, I now had to find a way to enjoy food again. This new non bean flour blend seemed promising, so I gave it a try and was NOT disappointed. These were chewy chocolatey deliciousness!!! I added nuts and coconut And my husband devoured them. - if you like cakey brownies add more egg. i love mine plain and fudgy. Way to go BRM!

    by GREGORY on 02 Sat,2016

Used melted coconut oil in place of butter and absolutely loaded the batter with your unsweetened shredded coconut. Baked and extra five minutes in an 8"X8" pan and then cut the oven off and let it cool/bake down.
The coconut takes the vaguely "floury/gloppy" edge off the taste and by the 24/48 hours later these are really something else!

  23. will buy again

    by Dane on 02 Wed,2016

this is a very good mix- i do not like most gluten free products but this one was quite good

  24. Yummy!!

    by BlueDream on 02 Tue,2016

This is the second product of yours that I have tried. I am very pleased.
The brownie mix is very rich and smooth. It turned into a beautiful cake like brownie. I added some walnuts & choc chips, yummy!!

  25. not lovin' the 'new'

by disappointed GF brownie lover on 02 Mon,2016

Like many others I find the 'new mix' is no match for the original mix. While it is better than other gluten free brownie mixes I've tried, it is only marginally so. Please bring back the original!

  26. DELISH

    by monty-k on 01 Sun,2016

These turned out delicious! I added chopped pecans and baked them until a toothpick came out mostly clean. They were a huge hit - shouldn't have told anybody they were made from a mix!

  27. Disappointing

    by golden5 on 01 Thu,2016

Very disappointed the old version is no longer available. Maybe you could bring it back, and label it as chocolate cake or something like that. This is what we used for my son's birthday cake and he loved it.

  28. Still a great product.

    by Kirbsand on 01 Wed,2016

I have had both the new and the old recipe. They are significantly different to the point where I have found that I need to bake them slightly different. My favorite baking method for the new recipe leads to a soft centered brownie with slightly crisp edges. Still probably my favorite gluten free desert and a must have in our house.
To get the best results (for me) I use a kitchenaid mixer and froth up the batter a bit by mixing on med-high for a couple of minutes.

  29. GF - not so bad after all.

    by RB on 01 Tue,2016

I have never had what everyone else is claiming to be a previous version of this mix. However, I didn't realize it was gluten free until I got it home. They turned out a lot like a "scratch" version I have made for years where the batter is almost fudge-like. I found them to be just fine, but since I don't seek out GF products, will probably not purchase again.

  30. Not a fan of the new recipe.

    by Karen on 12 Fri,2015

Very disappointed with the new recipe. We loved the old recipe and would bring them to family gatherings. I just made a batch to bring to Christmas dinner but they are gritty, overly sweet, and gummy texture. I could not even cut them up at all without them sticking to the knife and getting all messed up. I won't be buying these anymore:-( Miss the old brownies!

  31. Not an improvement...

    by Jvoice on 12 Sat,2015

Such a discouraging change...gritty, poor texture, and too sweet...this was achieved following the exact directions...

  32. Heartbroken in Montana

    by Why?!! on 12 Wed,2015

Used to be my favorite brownie mix. Can no longer have it with the changed ingredients. Used to buy all the time but now can't buy at all due to new ingredients.

  33. Gluten free brownie mix

    by ???? on 12 Wed,2015

So disappointed to have the recipe changed :( Pretty much every other gluten free brownie mix on the market is made with rice flour and our family can no longer have the new recipe. We really wish you would bring back the old recipe it was so good.

  34. Finally Soy-Free!

by Whole Eater on 12 Fri,2015

Love the new recipe!!!!!! Thank you for taking out the soy!

  35. Why change what was amazing???

by Disappointed celiac mom on 12 Wed,2015

I am so disappointed in the new recipe. My entire family loved the old recipe and I took the brownies everywhere and got so many compliments. Clearly this recipe no longer works egg free (it would be helpful to have this marked since that is a change) either. These are gritty and not nearly as rich as the previous recipe.
