Basic Preparation Instructions for Kasha

Organic kasha is simply buckwheat groats that have been hulled and roasted. Kasha is 100% whole grain and makes a wonderfully flavorful hot cereal or delicious side dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups Water
  • 1 cup Organic Kasha
  • ½ tsp Salt

Instructions

Stovetop
  1. Bring water to a boil in a small pot. Add kasha and salt. Return to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer, cover and cook until tender, 7–10 minutes. Drain off any remaining water.
Microwave
  1. Boil 1 cup water or broth in a 2-cup glass container. Add 1 teaspoon butter, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon pepper and 1/4 cup kasha. Cover with plastic wrap. Heat to boiling, then switch to DEFROST setting for 4 1/2 minutes. Spread out on a plate, put back in the microwave and heat uncovered 2 minutes on high. Remove and fluff with fork. Makes 1-2 servings.
