Tips for Hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch

Hosting a Mother’s Day brunch is a popular way to celebrate the special mom in your life and the contributions she makes to your world and the world at large. While you can always give her flowers and a cute card or find some decadent chocolate to help celebrate the day, it’s fun to mix things up a bit. And mamas the world over like nothing better than spending time with their kiddos and extended family, especially as they get older and time slows down, but the world seems to speed up. Moms appreciate those special times they get to enjoy with family and their children. Luckily, hosting a brunch is a perfect way to do it in style. Of course, your brunch can be as fancy or as low-key as you’d like to make it, but here are some tips to at least get you started.

Decide Who, When, and Where

The first step in planning your brunch is to decide who you want to invite, as well as when you want to have it, and where. The where can also help you decide if you want to go fancy or casual. Try to go whatever route you feel your mom would be most comfortable with, since the day is about her.

Mother’s Day Brunch Eats

Finger foods are great options for Mother’s Day, as well as dishes that can be made ahead of time and either warmed up or served chilled. If you want to cook something fresh, such as food on the grill (like marinated chicken), be sure to marinate everything the night before. Then it’s ready to rock when the time comes. This Sweet Breakfast Tabouli offers a little Middle Eastern flavor and can be served warm or cold. Or for some light lunch fare, try one of these salads with five ingredients or less. And for a flaky, buttery, citrus-flavored treat, you can try making these Foolproof Rosemary Citrus Scones. Everyone loves scones!

Mother’s Day Brunch Decor

Tips for Hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch _ Bob’s Red Mill When it comes to decor, it’s really all about Mom. Consider what she likes and try to offer her that. Flowers are always a welcome addition to any room, and if your mom is very girly, you can make flowers the centerpiece of your decorating scheme. Scatter flower petals on the tables, paint little rocks like flowers, and use ribbons or lace for accents. If your mom is more outdoorsy, you can go for a rustic feel and use Mason jars for drinking and twine instead of ribbon for accents. You can print out quotes to help express your feelings and proclaim how great your mom is and place them strategically around the room. If there is something your mom is fanatical about (like horses or reading), you can add little touches like mini toy horses on the table or make cute little “books” with quotes about how amazing moms are. Decorating for a Mother’s Day brunch allows you to get as creative and detailed as you want. We guarantee your mom with love and appreciate your efforts, no matter which route you take.

Mother’s Day Brunch Activities

Obviously, simply spending time together is great in and of itself. But when hosting a brunch, it’s nice to fill the time with a few planned activities. Crafting is a popular way to do that and get the whole family involved. One idea is to create an “awards station.” You can set up an area with construction paper and markers and other tools and have everyone create a special “Mom award” to give her. If you’re honoring several moms at your brunch, you can play “guess who.” Have all the moms in attendance make a short list of things they did before they became a mom. Then scramble the lists and hand them out to all the kids in attendance and have them guess which list belongs to who. You can offer candy as prizes for those who get it right. Finally, a rowdy bout of family karaoke is never remiss! Especially if you offer brunch with a little liquid courage! Of course, you could also spike a dessert smoothie and go for a twofer. Either way, karaoke is fun and makes lasting memories your mom will smile about for years to come.
