Todays spotlight is on Dafna Ben-Zeev of Freshly Dafna, a blog committed to sharing recipes that focus on: whole, real ingredients, no preservatives or artificial additives, organic food, high-quality sources of meat and low sugar intake. After trying many different diets, Dafna concluded that every body is unique and adjusts differently to ingredients and specific diets. Much of what she shares comes from her belief in listening to your body and adjusting your diet accordingly. How did you become an influencer/blogger?
I have always loved baking, and when I started focusing on my health and eating well, I was determined to continue baking but with ingredients I felt good about! So I began experimenting with creating better-for-you versions of the recipes I used to love. I wanted to share them with the world, so I started a blog and IG account. Because I really believe you can have your (healthier) cake and eat it too!
What started your journey into health?
I started my journey into health while recovering from an eating disorder. Being underweight and malnourished created so much damage to my body and realizing that food is what keeps our minds happy and our bodies healthy is what really motivated me to find the magic and joy of healthy eating.
Do you follow a modified diet?
I don't really follow any specific diet. I'd call the way I eat a "Modified Pescatarian Paleo Diet". I eat mostly plant based with some fish and eggs. And of course healthified desserts, always. I have found that this is the best diet for my body but really believe that everyone's body is different and it's so important to experiment with ingredients to find out what works best for each person.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I love pygmy goats! One of my life's goal is to live somewhere I can have a whole herd of them.
What is your favorite BRM product?
ALMOND FLOUR! It's the best I've found and I use it as the base for most of my recipes!
What do you like to do when you aren't working on recipe creation?
Getting outside, breaking a sweat, yoga, playing with my pups, and traveling!
Favorite season or holiday?
As much as I'd love to say I enjoy all the seasons equally, I love summer the most. Fresh berries, long warm days, th beach, flip flops, yes please!
What is your top baking tip?
Using good measuring cups and spoons. Leveling off ingredients when measuring. And I highly recommend getting an internal oven thermometer to make sure the temperature is accurate!
