Grilled Chicken Five Ways

By: Bob's Red Mill | August 23 2019
Grilled chicken is a staple in many summer households. It can be easily served to feed a hungry crowd, is often quick to whip up and somehow seems to always taste delicious.  Grilled BBQ chicken recipes are vast and varied, in part because chicken offers the perfect base to take on a variety of flavors.  It can be combined with pineapple and crunchy cashews for a unique twist or served with simple lemon juice and sea salt for a subtle flavor. We appreciate this fact about chicken: that even when you’re having back-to-back meals where chicken is the star, each meal can taste dramatically different.  Whether you’re on the hunt for grilled chicken breast recipes or looking for something a bit more adventurous, you’ve come to the right spot. Switch it up this summer season with one of these grilled chicken recipes Because at the end of a long summer day, nothing tastes quite as good as a homemade grilled chicken meal complete with all the right BBQ summer sides. Good company and a pleasant summer sunset are a welcomed bonus, too!

Chicken Rubs

Grilled Chicken Five Ways | Bob's Red Mill Blog Chicken rubs are versatile and easy to throw together. You can use all sorts of seasonings to create a dry rub, from a spicy rub with cayenne pepper and paprika to a more elevated rub with culinary lavender and gourmet sea salt. This recipe for The Best Grilled Chicken with Spice Rub from Joyfully Healthy Eats is deliciously done and takes just 20 minutes to make. It incorporates smoked paprika, cumin, coriander, garlic powder, salt and pepper. After adding a couple tablespoons of olive oil and rubbing the chicken breasts down, you’re all set and ready to grill your wonderful meal. You can also go the route of this Spice Rubbed Grilled Chicken from The Pioneer Woman. She adds her spices, tosses to coat and when the chicken is on the grill, she whisks together a simple glaze of red wine vinegar and honey. The acidity and sweetness complement the spice dry rub and makes for one of our favorite grilled chicken recipes. Ree suggests using chicken thighs, as they retain moisture better than boneless skinless chicken breasts.

BBQ Grilled Chicken

Grilled Chicken Five Ways | Bob's Red Mill Blog When it comes to an easy grilled chicken recipe, nothing is more classic than chicken with barbecue sauce. As the barbecue sauce simmers, you’ll be instantly transported to the summer season (even if you’re being bold and choosing to grill at the height of winter). These Grilled Chicken Breasts with BBQ Sauce from Martha Stewart are one of our top choices for grilled chicken breast recipes. She uses a classic homemade sauce that incorporates molasses, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, tomato paste, onion, oil, ground mustard and white vinegar. Once combined with the chicken of your choice (small pieces for something quick or a whole bird for an amazing slow-cooked meal) this flavorful barbecued chicken recipe takes on a life of its own, and makes for perfect leftovers, too. You can also try this Favorite BBQ Chicken on the Grill Recipe, which is quick, easy and full of smoky flavor. It adopts more of a rub-meets-BBQ sauce philosophy but is equally as tasty. As we like to say, experiment with both and see what fits your tastes and cooking style!

Chicken Skewers

Grilled Chicken Five Ways | Bob's Red Mill Blog Chicken skewers are simple, elegant and give a somewhat fancy twist to the typical backyard barbecue. When it comes to grilled chicken recipes to impress a crowd, chicken skewers are an excellent option. These Grilled Chicken Kabobs from Dinner at the Zoo are made with a savory honey garlic marinade and fresh veggies. They’re great for serving over rice as a complete meal that can be enjoyed outdoors in the summertime sunshine. We love the flavors and colors that zucchini gives to the dish. For something a little different, you can also try these Baja-Style Rosemary Chicken Skewers from Food and Wine. Chicken and rosemary go hand-in-hand, but these skewers take things to a new level. Instead of using traditional skewers, the chicken is skewered with rosemary to add an aromatic herbal flavor while also giving it a beautiful presentation. Finally, if it’s a go-to you’re searching for, these Lemon-Marinated Chicken Skewers are bursting with flavors of lemon juice, cilantro and fresh garlic and taste amazing for any occasion.

Herb-Marinated Chicken

Grilled Chicken Five Ways | Bob's Red Mill Blog Herb marinated chicken offers endless varieties and is entirely customizable based on what you’re in the mood for. This Garlic Herb Grilled Chicken from Healthy Seasonal Recipes uses just six flavorful ingredients and takes only 20 minutes of prep. It’s a perfectly easy grilled chicken recipe for weeknights or summer nights when you spend all day out and about at the beach, lake or pool. Come back home, whip this up, throw it on the grill and enjoy your summer night. For something fresh and fun, try this Grilled Chicken with Basil Dressing from Food Network. Basil is a wonderful complement to chicken, especially when combined with the flavors of fennel seeds, garlic and grated lemon peel. After your chicken has been grilled and transferred to serving plates, drizzle it with the basil sauce and serve. This dish tastes great alongside a veggie pasta or Mediterranean style rice dish. You can also keep things entirely simple and serve it with an arugula salad, drizzled with some olive oil, squeezed with fresh lemon and topped with a sprinkle of sea salt and black pepper.

Grilled Chicken Wings

Grilled Chicken Five Ways | Bob's Red Mill Blog When it comes to serving chicken at a party, nothing is quite as festive as chicken wings. Plus, throwing chicken wings on the barbecue gives them a wonderful texture and flavor. These Grilled Buffalo Wings from Food Network incorporate hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, butter and honey for a flavor that’s a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy. Three pounds of chicken wings will serve between six to eight people, so if you’re having a good-sized gathering, you’ll want to make more! Serve these alongside anything from Buckwheat Pesto Salad to a Greek Garbanzo Bean Salad. If you’re a big fan of all things spicy, these Sweet and Spicy Grilled Chicken Wings from She Wears Many Hats are perfect to add to your list of favorite grilled chicken recipes. We love that you only need four ingredients to create them: balsamic vinegar, honey, hot chili pepper sauce and bone-in chicken wings. Once you try the recipe with chicken wings, try other cuts of chicken, like thighs and legs. If we may say so, we like to enjoy our chicken wings with a side of macaroni salad. This Macaroni Salad with Greek Yogurt Dressing from The Kitchen Girl is always a favorite. It gives classic macaroni salad a nutritious makeover with bell pepper, celery, hard-boiled eggs, peas and a Greek yogurt dressing.

Great article! Preparing juicy and flavorful chicken is definitely an art. Turning the meat more than once can make it drier. It’s a good idea to spray it with a little water every 5 minutes.
