Tips for Prepping for Busy Mornings

Tips for Prepping for Busy Mornings

We get it. Youre busy. Life is busy! It seems like the days are getting shorter and the hours are getting more hectic, as we fill them with all of the activities for our kids and family, work, school, and entertainment. That means mornings can get crazy, and you dont always have time to do the important stuff (like making a healthy meal--and wearing matching socks). But you can make your mornings just a bit easier and smoother with a little forethought and preplanning. Keep reading for tips to prep for your morning the night before, so you can get out the door quickly, and with a full stomach!

Pick Your Clothes out the Night Before

Tips for Prepping for Busy Mornings _ Bobs Red Mill Plan ahead and pick out your clothes before bed. It may seem a little grade school, but theres a reason your mom always laid out your clothes for school the night before. It saves time and energy, and its one less decision you have to make for the day, helping to keep your mind sharp and your brain focused on the important things you need to accomplish that day. If you know you have an early meeting and the outfit you want to wear isnt clean or ironed, youll have time to make sure its fresh-smelling and wrinkle-free before the morning rolls around and youre pressed for time. This will help you avoid wearing yesterdays socks, too.

Check the Weather for Tomorrow

This can help save you time by helping you avoid last-minute clothing changes and decide on your route for your commute. If you know its going to be cold and rainy, you can lay out clothes that are appropriate. Likewise, if you know its going to be hot and you can wear casual attire, you can lay out clothes that will keep you cool and comfy.

Leave Nighttime Sticky Notes to Yourself

Morning brain is real. Youre tired, youre groggy, youre forgetful. If theres anything important to remember for the next day, write it down and stick it somewhere you know youll see it as you get ready. Even if youre reminding yourself to remember common, everyday things like your cell phone, (cough, cough), this little trick can save you time, especially when you avoid a return trip back home because you forgot something you needed and only remembered it five miles later.

Pack Your Lunch the Night Before

Again, mom knew what she was doing when she packed that lunch box and stowed it in the fridge every night before school. Not only do you save time by not having to rummage around your kitchen, finding items and prepping your food, you may also end up eating healthier because you took the time to prep and pack your lunch the night before and arent just running around and grabbing whatever looks quick and easy. You can make yourself a nice healthy sandwich or pack up dinner leftovers, and you can add a few healthy snacks to the mix to help you power through the rest of your day after lunchtime. Mason jar salads are great lunch ideas, and they travel well. When youre ready to eat it, you just pour it on your plate and end up with a perfectly topped and deliciously nutritious salad, sans the chopping, dicing, and soggy greens.

Make Your Breakfast the Night Before Too

Many people will skip breakfast completely if they have a busy morning, and then wind up regretting it later. Or you may grab something fast and completely devoid of nutrition, just to fill your belly and relieve your hunger pains, but it does nothing to help your health, your brain, or your mood. By lunchtime, youre left feeling tired, sluggish, and drained of energy. You might even be feeling a tad bit hangry, which can lead to poor food choices for lunch and dinner. The best thing to do is make you breakfast the night before, and pack it the same way you pack your lunch if you dont think youll have time to eat it before leaving the house. Breakfast cups are a quick, healthy, and easy way to kick your morning off right, or you can try making some overnight oats or overnight quinoa. Then all you have to do is grab your Mason jar from the fridge, and off you go! Remember, the name of the game for busy mornings is preparedness. Prep your clothes, your breakfast, and your lunch the night before, and it will shave minutes of precious time off your hectic mornings.
