Pomegranates

Pomegranates are an excellent fall seasonal fruit that can be eaten in a variety of ways. You can drink the juice, eat the seeds (either fresh or cooked) and make sauces for both sweet and savory recipes. They are loaded with good for you nutrients like vitamin C and vitamin K, plus potassium, minerals and antioxidants. Did we mention they taste pretty delish too? Look for fruits that are bright or dark red in color, roughly the size of an orange or grapefruit. You should also check out the crown to see if the little petal things are turned inward and see if the fruit feels heavier than it looks, because both are an indication that the fruit is ripe and ready to eat.

Apples

Fall Produce List | Bob's Red Mill Blog   Apples are like a universal fruit that everyone knows and loves. They come in many colors, including red, yellow and green. You can eat them fresh, chop them into a beautiful fruit salad or cook them in the oven with some cinnamon and butter for a warm, spicy treat. There are a host of different recipes apples make an excellent addition to. Apple pies, crunchy chicken salad or why not even try a Savory Fall Tart recipe like this one? Cut one open to see if the seeds are brown to determine if your apple is fully ripe. You can also tell an apple is ripe by how soft and sweet that the fruit is!

Pumpkin

Pumpkin is one of those fruits everyone loves when the fall season arrives. Its so versatile, we even get to enjoy pumpkin-flavored coffees and smoothies! Its a good idea to look for the smaller pumpkins, as the flesh inside is usually more tender. Try making a pumpkin pie this fall, or experiment with a quinoa bowl using pumpkin seeds and our organic quinoa grain.

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a root veggie and make a great addition to soups, salads, pies and souffles. Try this Roasted Rainbow Vegetable Buckwheat Grain Bowl if youre in the mood for something healthy and tasty. We think the addition of sweet potato is what makes this dish shine!

Fennel

Fennel is a great veggie addition to salads, but can also be grilled, pan-fried and even roasted. It also makes an excellent addition to sausage, both the sweet and the hot kind, or you can shave the bulb into lettuce. The flavor is sweet with hints of licorice, so if youre not a licorice fan, fennel may not be your favorite. Look for bulbs that are white (no browning), with bright greenery.

Beets

Fall Produce List | Bob's Red Mill Blog   Beets are a lovely addition to your holiday veggie list. Look for smaller ones, because they will be more tender. Make sure the greenery is nice and bright and clip all the greenery off once you buy them because they will dry out the bulbs. Beets are tasty in salads, as a side dish (pickled beets, anyone?), roasted or even baked into healthy desserts. The skys the limit on ways you can incorporate beets into your meal plan, so dont miss out!

Figs

Figs are so versatile! You can put them in almost anything and they taste amazing every time. Try them in baked goods (especially desserts), fresh and raw with cheese or on a tart, mixed in a salad, wrapped in prosciutto or even eat them in your ice cream. You know figs are ripe when they are soft and smell nice and fresh.

Brussels Sprouts

These are one veggie that take a bit of practice to master, but once you do, yum! Look for bright green sprouts with small heads for the best flavor and readiness. Oven-roasted sprouts caramelize and taste a little sweet, and pair great with pancetta and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. You can cook Brussels sprouts whole or chop them in half. Some people even slice them. They are also great steamed or cooked in the microwave for a fast side dish. Theres really no downside to this beautiful, tasty vegetable. Try out one of these fall fruits and veggies this coming season on your family and friends. You never know, you might end up with a new signature holiday dish to make each year.
