Baking Hacks from Influencers

We say it often, but baking truly is an art form. It requires patience to master and creativity to make it fun. Once you get to a pro level, you start to look for ways to help streamline the process and make things faster, easier and better. To help you do that, weve asked some of the best food bloggers around the web to share their top baking hacks based on their own experimentation. Sarah Orrock from the blog Wild Yums recommends always doing a small batch test before going all in on baking something. She says her top hack is, The microwave method. ALWAYS test out your raw cake/cookie batter before baking by scooping some in a mug and microwaving it until done (about 10-15 seconds) to make sure the texture and flavor are exactly what you want. Saves you a lot of time later, in case you mess up an entire batch (and don't realize it until after you've baked it all). Follow her on Instagram @wildyums for more pearls of baking wisdom. Baking Hacks from Influencers | Bob's Red Mill Blog If youve ever poured cold milk into hot coffee or overcooked a cold steak, you know the value of bringing certain things to room temp before using them. This applies to baking, too. Stephanie Suen from The Buttery Whisk says, When it comes to baking, my top baking tip/hack would have to be to make sure ALL ingredients are at room temperature unless stated otherwise. Making sure your eggs, milk or butter arent chilled will give you much better results (I promise!). We have no argument. Follow Stephanie on Instagram @thebutterywhisk for other handy baking hacks you can try. Bet you didnt know theres more to flossing than just cleaning teeth or a new dance move. Lana Yarkin of the blog Lana Bakes says, My top baking tip is to cut your cinnamon rolls with a piece of floss instead of a knife. Using a piece of floss will give you the straightest, cleanest cuts for your rolls! Whoda known? If you like this hack, follow Lana on Instagram @Lana_bakes. Learning to recognize the signs of when your baked goods are done is a vital skill for any baker. We asked Taylor Harbin of All-Purpose Flour Child for her top tip and she said, Temperatures and baking times can vary greatly depending on weather and ovens, so learn the signs to look for to indicate your bake is done, such as a cake springing back when you tap the surface, a pie crust thats crispy on the bottom of the pie pan and cookies that have spread and puffed enough to form a uniform shape but are still slightly wiggly in the center for a chewy cookie. Wise words and a skill every baker should aspire to obtain! Follow Taylor on Instagram @all.purpose.flour.child if you agree. If youre a novice baker, you might want to start with something simple, like a no-bake recipe. We asked Jazz Leaf of Jazz's Recipes 4 Health her thoughts on the matter and she says, No-bake desserts can be the perfect healthy treat without needing the precision of baking. Start with desserts that require no baking, are quick to make and super satisfying! Most desserts can be placed in the freezer and enjoyed from time to time! For more no-bake recipe ideas among other things, follow Jazz on Instagram @recipes4health. Baking Hacks from Influencers | Bob's Red Mill Blog Everyone knows parchment paper is a key component of any bakers arsenal. But so is non-stick aluminum foil! Sarah Herman of Starving to Strong declares, Use non-stick aluminum foil, your life will be changed forever! Just plain aluminum foil doesn't work as well. Follow Sarah on Instagram @starving_to_strong, shes always got something helpful to share for her fellow foodies. Baking is all about tools and techniques. When you have the right mix of both, thats when the magic happens. We asked Allie Mason Hoffberg of The Health Mason blog her fave tools and techniques and she says, Timers, sifting flours . . . especially almond or other nut flours. Make sure to get the clumps out! Getting all those lumps out helps make your baked goods really shine. Follow Allie on Instagram @thehealthmason for more great baking tips. Last but not least, we asked Katherine Snyman from Love in My Oven her favorite baking hack. She replied with, Use a kitchen scale to weigh ingredients vs measure! So much more precise :) Since precision is so key when baking and measuring ingredients, we have to agree with her wholeheartedly! Follow Katherine on Instagram @loveinovenblog for stellar baking wisdom, tips and tricks. Baking is both an art and a science. Whenever you can implement a tip or hack that makes the whole process just a little easier, its like the sun breaking free from the clouds. With a little trial and error, youll be baking like a pro in no time at all. Keep baking, friends!
