Great for fruit pies
Great crust for homemade blueberry pie. Use the minimum water called for even if the dough barely sticks together. This keeps the dough flaky and light. Adding just a little more water can make the dough heavy and produces a pie with a thick heavy crust. We use this mix regularly because it never fails to taste great.

Apple Turnovers/handpie
I used this to make apple turnovers or some call them hand pies. The end result was very good and not nutty in taste or texture. I did have a problem with crumbling but was able to overcome it with a little more water.

Just right for taste and easy to use
It’s been a lot of trial and error finding the GF Pastry and Pie Crust mix that works for me and tastes great. Bob’s Red Mill was a suggestion from my daughter, also celiac, because she watched a U Tube on making Puff Pastry with this mix. This will be my “go to” gf mix for pie crust and puff pastry from now on.

Love GF Pie crust!
Until this mix, I hadn't seen a GF pie crust. I was amazed at how good it is. I love the texture, although I know that pie lovers can be very picky about their pie crust. If you're GF, this is one to try! And it is so easy to prepare. I was surprised about that, too.

My favorite GF flour
I use this mix for most of my baking just like all purpose flour. I've experimented with a lot other GF mixes, but this one works the best for me.

I am making cannoli (I use a pie crust and back them rather than frying them) for a dinner and my niece is allergic to all thing with regular wheat flour. I am hopeful this will allow me to make this for her and the rest of us and have the texture and flavor unaffected.

Elizabeth W on Apr 2, 2018
Hello! Can I prepare this pie crust and then freeze before baking? Im trying to get a jump on thanksgiving prep
Lindsay C on Nov 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you freeze it overnight, it will be frozen solid and you will have to defrost it a bit before using it. Freezing it for 1 hour makes it easier to work it. So, yes, you can, but that would depend on how quickly you want to use it when you pull it out of the freezer.
Can you blind bake it? Without filling
A shopper on Mar 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi! Yes, to blind bake place your rolled dough into the pie pan, prick the surface with a fork, and flute edges. Line the pie crust with parchment paper/foil and fill with pie weights. Bake at 350ºF for 15 – 20 minutes. Remove pie weights, parchment paper/foil and bake until the desired color and crispness are reached.
Can I freeze the pie crust mix before preparing the crust
?
anne j on Nov 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Funny thing, I froze this by accident. You need to chill the dough for an hour before rolling it, and I put it in the freezer by mistake. I took it out, it defrosted quickly and rolled out fine. I bet you could roll it, put it in pie plate and freeze no problem.
Can the gluten free pie crust mix be used to make an apple pie crumb topping?
Christine K on Dec 30, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have not used the GF pie crust as a crumb topping, but I believe it would work. It calls for a significant amount of butter/margarine as you would use in a crumb topping. You might want to add brown sugar, cinnamon and even some GF oatmeal.
Is the sugar listed as a ingredient, cane sugar?
marilyn b on Mar 20, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, sugar is listed as an ingredient, here's the full ingredient list: Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Tapioca Flour, Sugar, Rice Bran, Sea Salt, Xanthan Gum
I'd like to know the shelf life of this. Would the 25 lb bag be stale if not used within a few weeks, months? Thanks.
A shopper on Nov 28, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This product is best kept in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, preferably the fridge or freezer. The shelf life is 24 months.
Can this be frozen longer than the 1 hour it states in the directions? I was looking to freeze this overnight? thanks
A shopper on Nov 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you freeze it overnight, it will be frozen solid and you will have to defrost it a bit before using it. Freezing it for 1 hour makes it easier to work it. So, yes, you can, but that would depend on how quickly you want to use it when you pull it out of the freezer.
