My Pop Pop AKA "Eppie" was all that is good and right in the world. As an officer in the U.S. Air Force turned PR and Business Manager for the Harlem Globe Trotters turned head of the IBM Department at F.W. Woolworth Co. He was quite literally an officer and a gentleman. He always found little moments to make us feel special. Most vividly, he would scoop me in his arms and take me to the donut shop to share a special treat. He would encourage me to dance by creating elaborate routines with me and if I close my eyes I can still hear his laugh. He taught us that laughter is the best medicine and that food should be savored. He taught me what it meant to be a man of integrity and he had a gentleness that now lives in all of us. I talk to my son about him often and can only hope that one day he will grow up to be just like Mr. Robert Epstein. My grandpa. My hero.
