I chose my Grandma Pat for a lot of reasons. She raised 4 kids (including identical twins, hi Mom!) while beating cancer after having a hysterectomy in her 30’s, then continued to live joyfully and independently until the age of 82. She was a great grandmother who’s sense of humor only got better over the years and I deeply admire how she endured so many difficulties throughout her life, yet managed to keep the sweetest, softest heart while being a tough, sarcastic little firecracker. That is the biggest accomplishment I think any human can make – to not allow hardship to harden them.
