Jules Donald Robinson, Grampy to me, was born in 1915 and yesterday he called me using FaceTime to chat. In short, Grampy is simply remarkable. My grandfather is 103 and still lives in the house he shared with my grandmother. His mind is sharp and although his body has aged, it only slows down his social calendar slightly. He plays pool on Wednesday, bridge with “church ladies” on Thursday, and on Friday he hosts a gab session where he and a group of friends chat about everything from saving the world, to golf, to the meaning of life.

Grampy doesn’t know he’s a marvel, and he moves in the world with a curiosity and humbleness of spirit that makes him seem even more wise. I think it’s his continued wonder at the world, that I find most inspiring. He is still asking questions, still experimenting, still learning, which is why it is so easy to learn how to authentically live from him.
