Meet Bob & Charlee

They founded Bob’s Red Mill together as a labor of love.

Before you get to know our business, you need to meet the man behind it—Bob Moore. You'll recognize his friendly face on our products, and if you ever visit our mill, Whole Grains Store, or Visitor’s Center, you might even get to meet the man himself.

Bob’s Values

For over three decades, Bob has been committed to providing people everywhere with the best quality foods available. His passion for health and belief in taking care of one another is as strong today as it was when he first started the business with his wife, Charlee, all those years ago. Bob plays a fundamental role in the daily operations of the business and his enthusiasm and 'honest-to-goodness' approach are shared with every one of his employees. It's this passion for providing the very best nutritional whole grains that has helped make us the leading name in health foods across the country.

The Bob & Charlee Story

Bob and Charlee met on a blind date in 1952. Twenty-six years later they founded Bob’s Red Mill together as a labor of love. It was Charlee who first inspired the couple’s whole grain adventure when, in early 1960s, she decided to create a healthier life for her family by feeding them wholesome, natural foods—fruits, vegetables, beans, and whole grains.

Charlee was a fixture in the original Bob’s Red Mill store, which quickly gained a loyal following in the local community. She took on many roles in the early days, including packaging products by hand. To this day, Bob and Charlee still love to spend time at the Whole Grain store. You can often find them there, chatting with shoppers or enjoying a healthy breakfast. Their passion for whole grains today is as strong as ever.

The first whole grain loaf of bread that came out of my wife Charlee’s oven on our five acre farm back in the 60s was the most delicious loaf of bread I can ever remember smelling and eating.

Proudly Employee-Owned

Just imagine showing up for work one day as a company employee and leaving as an owner. That dream came true for the employees at Bob’s Red Mill on Bob’s 81st birthday. Rather than receiving gifts, he decided to give his greatest gift away—ownership in his business. Bob surprised all his employees by creating an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP) and making everyone an employee-owner.

For those who know Bob, it's yet another example of his kind-hearted generosity. As Bob puts it "It was just the right thing to do. I have people that have worked with me for over 30 years and each and every one of them deserve this.” You can rest assured that every Bob's Red Mill employee is committed to sourcing, milling, testing, packaging, labeling and selling the finest products available. After all, it is our business.

It's so obvious, it's not. That thing you make - That thing you love - It should be a good thing. After all, isn't that the point? Isn't that why we're here? To help one another. To add something. To make folks a little happier, a little healthier for doing what you do? We are Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods. Good Food for All.
