  • 5 Gallon Bucket: This high quality bucket is made in the USA from virgin resin. It is BPA free and FDA approved food grade plastic, making this bucket excellent for long term food storage. This bucket includes an airtight lid with a food grade rubber gasket to ensure against contamination or infestation.
  • Bob's Clear Plastic Containers: Made in the USA, BPA Free, and FDA approved for food. These bottles come in 32 ounce and gallon sizes. These plastic containers are not dishwasher safe; please wash by hand.
  • Air Tight Seal: All of Bob's Red Mill storage containers come with an airtight lid. The Gamma Seal Lid is a great convenient option for buckets accessed on a regular basis. This lid snaps on airtight for safe storage, but has a spin off lid that enables easy access to ingredients. When done, simply spin the lid back on to seal with an airtight gasket. Gamma Seal Lids are made in the USA and fit the 5 gallon bucket that we sell.
  • Oxygen Absorbers: These packets eliminate the presence of oxygen in foodstuffs such as grain, rice, and beans. Oxygen absorbers are just what you need for long-term shelf stability. Use one oxygen packet per 5 gallon bucket. Our premium oxygen absorbers remove the oxygen from airtight sealed food storage containers. Removing oxygen stops oxidation to dramatically extend food's shelf life and helps prevent insect activity. These absorbers are single-use and cannot be reused.

Long-term food storage is a simple, economical way to stock your home pantry with staples like grains and beans. Proper long-term food storage can keep your food free from spoilage for years. Here are a few easy tips for storing your food safely and effectively.

Start by choosing clean, high-quality foods and containers that are well suited to long-term storage.

You can trust Bob's Red Mill for clean, quality foods for long-term storage. We take great care in testing our products for freshness and purity to ensure strict standards are met.

Not all foods are well suited to long-term storage. Choose foods with low moisture- and oil-content, such as wheat berries, corn kernels, pinto beans and rolled oats.

Choose a container that is made from high-quality materials and is designed for long-term storage. Our storage buckets are made from food-grade, BPA-free plastic and will not leach into your product during storage.

Choose the right size container. To store 25 pounds of Bob's Red Mill Rolled Oats, use a 6-gallon bucket. For most other Bob's Red Mill products, you can fit 25 pounds in a 5-gallon bucket.

Choose a lid that will create an air-tight seal. We recommend a Gamma Seal Lid, which provides protection but also makes it easy to access your food when you need it. A regular lid with a food-grade rubber gasket works well, too.

After you put your food into the storage container, add an Oxygen Absorber. These small packets of food-safe iron oxide are inexpensive insurance against bacteria and insects. Use one Oxygen Absorber per 5-gallon bucket, or two per 6-gallon bucket.

Before putting the lid on your storage bucket, clean the black rubber gasket and bucket rim with a damp cloth, then allow them to dry.

Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the lid into place, making sure the gasket is sealed on the bucket rim.

Label the bucket or lid with the name of the food, and the month and year it went into storage.
