Soft White Wheat Berries are used mainly by those with their own home mills to grind whole wheat pastry flour, but they can also be cooked and eaten in grain salads, soups, pilafs and stir-fries.

Details

This is premium whole grain Soft White Wheat. Our Soft White Wheat Berries have a sweet, nutty flavor that pairs well with just about anything. They can also be ground into whole wheat pastry flour and used in the place of white flour for pancakes, muffins, cookies, cakes, pie crusts or any recipe calling for baking powder or soda as a rising agent.

Like all whole grains, Soft White Wheat Berries consist of all three parts of the grain kernel — the germ, the endosperm, and the bran. Although we don't know exactly how these parts all work together, we do know from studies that diets rich in whole grain foods and other plant foods and low in total fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers. Whole grains make a terrific addition to your healthy diet.

Besides being ground into flour, our Soft White Wheat Berries can be served as a nutritious whole grain. See the back of our package for basic cooking instructions, as well as a recipe for a hearty yet light Wheat Berry & White Bean Salad. Soft White Wheat Berries are also a terrific grain for soups and stews, since they hold their shape well even after long cooking periods. They even do well in sweet puddings and breakfast bowls.

A better alternative to buying already ground wheat in the store since it is supposed to be refrigerated or frozen after being ground. Like having our grinder at home to make our own freshly ground wheat which is SO much better for you.

We own a personal grain mill and want to grind a variety of wheat berries.

I used to order Palouse wheat berries on Amazon. They continually shipped my order incorrectly which led me to see if Bob's Red Mill sold wheat berries. They do and it's actually a much better deal.

need to avoid enriched flour due to folic acid additive. Need to avoid folic acid due to MTHFR.

I grind my own "white whole wheat" flour. You can taste the difference in breads particularly but also other baked goods. I ordered on line because none of the local stores can be counted on to have this in stock; paying you $9.99 to ship is a lot easier than a goose chase. And I loaded up on oatmeal while I was at it.
