FOR BREAD MACHINES
Baking Directions: For 1 1/2 pound bread machine: Put 1 1/8 cups warm tap water into machine. LOCATE AND REMOVE THE ENCLOSED YEAST PACKET. Then add the contents of the package of Rye Bread Mix, 2 Tbsp. canola (or other) oil, and contents of the yeast packet. Put machine on basic white bread or medium setting. Turn on machine. Now enjoy that great old world flavor of rye bread.
FOR BAKING BY HAND IN CONVENTIONAL OVEN
Baking Instructions: LOCATE AND REMOVE THE ENCLOSED YEAST PACKET. Add contents of the yeast packet to the mix. COMBINE the Rye Bread Mix, 2 Tbsp. canola (or other) oil and 1 1/8 cups warm tap water. KNEAD 8-10 minutes on a floured surface. Place in a greased bowl, COVER & LET RISE in a warm place until doubled (approx. 1 1/2 hours). PUNCH down, COVER & LET RISE until doubled (approx. 30-40 min). FORM loaf and place in a greased 9 x 5 x 3 bread pan. GREASE top of loaf. COVER with plastic wrap and LET RISE in a warm place until doubled (approx. 45 min). BAKE at 375° for 30-40 minutes. Thump top of loaf. A hollow sound indicates a properly baked loaf. Turn out of pan, cover with a towel and cool before slicing.
