Bob's Secrets

1. A Sense of Purpose

I just think that if you have something to do, something that interests you, you’re gonna to live longer. My purpose has been building and maintaining a company that provides healthy whole grain foods to folks around the world—and offers financial security to its employees

2. Movement

I believe in getting exercise each day. I get my daily exercise by walking the Bob’s Red Mill facilities. Making my way around the offices and mill rooms, and catching up with my employees is my workout regime!

3. Pursuing Passions

It doesn’t matter what it is – just having an outside interest keeps one young! Some of my passions are model airplanes (I have 11 hanging from my office ceiling), pianos duets, and classic cars. You’re only as old as you feel, right?

4. Sleep

Early to bed, early to rise; getting a good night’s sleep gives me the energy I need for whatever the day has in store.

5. Continued Learning

I don’t pretend to know everything, but I’m not giving up yet! I like to spend my mornings reading. I’m on an ancient civilizations kick right now.

6. Giving Back

Success isn’t as sweet if it’s not shared with others. Period. That’s why I gave my company to my hardworking employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. I just couldn’t have anyone else own a company they have worked so hard to build.

7. Eating Food as Nature Intended

Grains should be whole, as they were put on this earth. Eating a diet rich in whole grains and other whole foods keeps my body running from early morning to the end of the day. I feel great! I can’t imagine eating any other way.
