Details

Why is Bob's Red Mill cornmeal the best? Unlike most manufacturers of cornmeal and corn flour, we leave the germ and bran in! That makes our 100% Stone Ground Medium Grind Cornmeal tastier and more nutritious, with a good amount of dietary fiber and lots of naturally delicious corn flavor. Medium Grind Cornmeal makes the best cornbread possible; it gives a great texture without an overabundance of crumbs. Great for corn muffins, too! Try it in cornmeal pancakes and waffles, or use it to dust the pan when baking bread or pizza crust.

Absolutely authentic
This is a good (not great) cornmeal for traditional southern style cornbread. If you grew up on cake style cornbread with wheat flour and sugar in it, this aint for you, but if you want to eat what your ancestors called cornbread use this cornmeal, and this recipe: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2015/11/southern-unsweetened-cornbread-recipe.html

Too Hard
This cornmeal is filled with little hard morsels that actually hurt your teeth when you eat it. Not sure what to use it for. Not good for cornbread that's for sure. Would not buy again.

Awesome Cornbread
Follow the recipe for great cornbread.
Hint on the wheat pastry flour. If you don’t have pastry flour, use regular wheat flour. For each cup used, take out 2 Tbls out of cup and add 2 Tbls of cornstarch. Mix and continue following recipe.

Nutritional and great flavor Medium Cornmeal product
Love this Cornbread, I substitute the 1 c wheat flour with 1/2 c Wheat Germ, 1 oz. Coconut flour and 2 oz Spelt flour, same amount of milk and etc. ingredients, finished baking in 17 min. Serve hot with Pure Maple Syrup. I eat mine plain to savor the cornmeal flavor. I am anxious to try the fine Cornmeal + all the recipes mentioned in the 8 reviews. Hope I can find the cornmeal porridge recipe.

I made cornbread and it felt like there was sand inside.
I made cornbread and it came out full of hard bits like it was full of sand. I'm really disappointed.
Tasty, but sandy cornbread
I made a cornbread and it is really tadty but it feels like it is fullof sand. The coarser grains ate just too hard. I'm really disappointed.

Janis V on Nov 24, 2017
I have made salt rising bread for years and apparently other companies have removed the germ from their cornmeal that the recipe no longer works!
Mary E H on Nov 16, 2017
Great cornbread! Also great to place on pizza stone before putting fresh homemade dough on stone. Prevents pizza from sticking.
Cynthia A on Nov 5, 2017
I make my cornbread with this cornmeal & no flour. I cook the cornbread in the waffle iron & then freeze it. It is thin enough to thaw quickly, when a piece is needed for a meal.

Why is there a difference between this cornmeal and a gluten free cornmeal? Isn’t all cornmeal gluten free?
Jessica K on Nov 7, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The only difference is that the gluten free product is processed and packaged in our dedicated gluten free facility. It's also tested for gluten to make sure it is less than 20 parts per million to make it safe for gluten free certification.
Can I use medium ground cornmeal for polenta?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The medium grind corn meal may be too fine for polenta. I would try the Polenta Corn Grits.
Is your cornmeal non-GMO?
A shopper on Mar 9, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi! Yes, this product is Non-GMO. Every item from Bob's Red Mill is Non-GMO and you can read more about our sourcing practices here: https://www.bobsredmill.com/non-gmo
Gluten isn't my problem, I am highly allergic to milk products and I am wondering if your cornmeal is processed in shared equipment with milk products?
Rebecca M on Jan 6, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This product is produced in a facility that also manufactures milk. Our gluten free cornmeal however is not so you could use that one.
Is it normal to see some grey flecks in the cornmeal?
Susannah c on Dec 29, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes that is normal. This product is fairly uniform in color, with some black/grey specs, which can be attributed to the germ of the corn.

Quality. Integrity. Tradition.
