Bob’s Red Mill Green Pea Flour is made from the finest quality whole green peas, carefully stone ground on our century-old stone-buhr millstones. It is gluten free, a good source of fiber, and makes an excellent addition to soups, sauces, dips and baked goods.
Green peas offer significant health benefits. For starters, peas are a nutrient-dense complex carbohydrate and rich in antioxidants. Peas are a provide amino acids such as lysine, are a source of essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorous and potassium. Peas also act as a pre-biotic; including pre-biotics in your diet helps the beneficial bacteria in your digestive system thrive.
There seems to be some general confusion on what to do with this flour besides make split pea soup. Yes, you can make an excellent, easy split pea soup with our green pea flour—but that’s not all. You can also use it in all sorts of fun recipes, like Pea, Parmesan and Rosemary Crackers or savory gluten free pancakes (try this recipe,but substitute green pea flour for the garbanzo bean flour and omit the vanilla; serve with smoked salmon and crème fraiche). Add some green pea flour to breads, cookies, cakes and muffins for a nutritional boost and to create a baked good with a fun color. Use it to make a creamy dip or use it in place of garbanzo bean flour for falafel-like patties. It’s a fun ingredient that is well-suited to experimentation.
