A Message from Bob’s Red Mill CEO
Dennis Vaughn

The senseless and horrific murder of George Floyd was a catalyst that kicked off a powerful call for change around the world. It has also led me to personally re-examine what more we as a company—and I as an individual—can and should be doing to promote equity.

I have had many conversations with our executive team, talking about how we can do better. We started by posting a statement on social media in support of our Black customers, employees, friends, followers and people of color everywhere. We also made a donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, to support their mission to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons. We realize this is only a small first step, and it is long overdue. We are currently in the process of assessing all aspects of our company and identifying ways we can make meaningful changes that reflect our values.

Here are a few areas we are currently focusing on:

Diversity of Our Workforce
Creating a more diverse workforce by recruiting more candidates from underrepresented groups, including more Black, Indigenous, Latino and Asian candidates, as well as providing growth opportunities at all levels of the company for people of color.

Opportunity Growth
Helping individuals from underserved and underrepresented groups gain access to education in our industry, through partnerships with organizations providing scholarships or training to people of color in culinary arts, agriculture, food science, nutrition and business management.

Diversity in Our Media Representation
Increasing diversity in our media representation by partnering with more Black, Indigenous, Latino and Asian influencers, and hiring more Bob’s Red Mill staff ambassadors from these underrepresented groups to better reflect the diversity of our country.

This is just the beginning of our journey to becoming a more diverse, inclusive and equitable company. We will be sharing updates with you in the coming months as we continue to develop our plans in these and other areas of our business.

It’s our responsibility to contribute to the racial justice and equity that we want to see in our communities, locally and globally. I hope you will continue to support us as we strive to become a better company.
