Cranberry Beans, also known as borlotti beans, have a creamy texture and wonderfully nutty flavor. Use these gorgeous heirloom beans in place of pinto beans for chili, baked beans, pasta fagioli and more.
Much sweeter and more delicate in taste than common pintos or kidney beans, these beautiful red cranberry beans are popular in Italian, Portuguese and Greek cuisine and are often known as “borlotti” beans. These beautiful, light colored beans with cranberry speckles are creamy in texture and have a mild, nutty flavor.

In addition to being delicious, cranberry beans are an excellent nutrient-dense food. These dried beans are a rich source of dietary fiber, protein and iron, and are packed with vitamins and minerals. Cranberry beans are low in fat and sodium, and are cholesterol free.

Unlike green or common beans, fresh cranberry beans are shell beans, or shelling beans. When they’re young, you can eat them, pods and all, but we dry our fresh borlotti beans, shell them and package them up to enjoy in salads, soups, pasta fagioli, casseroles, stews and bean spreads. Use as you would any dry beans in chili or for baked beans.

Dried cranberry beans take about an hour to cook on the stovetop, but you can shorten the cooking time with a pressure cooker. Add salt, water and a bay leaf for extra flavor! See our website for more great recipes.
