Brown Rice Flour is 100% stone ground from the highest quality whole grain brown rice and has a mild, nutty flavor. Use this versatile gluten free flour as breading, for thickening sauces and gravies, and in gluten free baking recipes like brown rice flour pancakes, muffins and gluten free bread.

Details

Our Brown Rice Flour is 100% stone ground at Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods on a very fine setting to prevent a gritty texture—a common complaint about many brown rice flours. This glutinous rice also imparts a richer, nuttier flavor than wheat flour. You can thicken sauces with it and use it for coating fish and other proteins, as well as create breads, cakes and even noodles. Browse our extensive collection of brown rice flour recipes for everything from brownies to blini.

Bakers with celiac disease following a gluten free diet will often use brown rice flour to create a gluten free flour blend. Common additions include potato starch, sorghum flour, sweet rice flour, tapioca starch and xanthan gum. Keep in a sealed container to extend its shelf life! While you won’t be able to substitute this flour cup for cup with wheat flour, with a little experimenting you can enter a whole new world of gluten free food!

great brown rice flour
This is a great brown rice flour. I primary used it in my early experiments with GF baking and have since switched to the 1-for-1 flour since I didn't enjoy mixing flours and having to add binding agents. If you are just looking for a brown rice flour though, you can't go wrong with this one.

Best rice flour out there
I’ve tried many other brands of rice flour either out of convenience or trying to save a few pennies. None of them hold a candle to Bobs and I will forever be a loyal customer.

Both the Brown Rice and White Rice Flours are main staples in our Gluten Free Flour base. The fine quality and texture of both flours have made for baked goods that even guests have not identified as 'gluten free' because they have been fine-textured, light and moist. Excellent products!
Mary C on Jun 25, 2018
I bake gluten free items including biscuits for my dog. It's very easy to order online and it's delivered to my door. Gotta love that!
Roxie H on Jun 20, 2018
Great in combination with other rice flours.
Gail S on Jun 17, 2018
I'm gluten intolerant and the cost of store bought gluten free bread is so high and the quality of store bought bread is poor, I use a Mix of Rice Flours and potato starch to make a General Flour Mix that works quite well for me. I also add einkorn flour to make a tastier more stable bread. The Flour Mix works well in my breadmaker. Overall quality and cost make me happy.
Lois B on Jun 16, 2018
I always pair brown rice flour with the GF All purpose baking flour. 3:1 ratio.
Terryll R on Jun 15, 2018

Is xanthan gum needed for baking?
A shopper on Oct 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes, if baking gluten-free. It is not necessary in Pancakes, but always use it in cookies, bread, cake and muffins. You can bake without it, but the overall outcome will not be the quality you are hoping for in gluten-free. Bread takes more than other recipes.Without wheat gluten, you must use a stabilizer such as Xanthan Gum to give your bread the ability to hold your rise. Only use the amount needed to achieve your desired results. Don't over do. bob's Red Mill makes a quality product, but do pay attention to the expire date on the packaging.
Is this product fortified with folic acid?
A shopper on Oct 23, 2017

A shopper on Mar 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi! All of our new packages have been updated to have a "best by" date for clarity. Regardless of the terminology used the "sell by" and "best by" dates are calculated the same, 12-24 months from the production date depending on the product. We recommend enjoying the product within that sell/best by date or about 6 months beyond.
