Homemade Pasta Using the Philips Pasta Maker + Giveaway

By: Cassidy Stockton | February 20 2018

Have you ever made your own pasta? Not only is fresh pasta delicious, making it is a fun kitchen skill to add to your repertoire. Fresh pasta is easy to make with the Philips Avance Pasta Maker, and we've come up with some easy recipes for you to try. With this incredible machine, you can make a pound of pasta in just 15 minutes. If you've ever made homemade pasta, you know that it can be rather time consuming and cumbersome to make pasta with the right texture. I can't tell you how many failed batches of homemade noodles I made before trying this machine.

Philips sent us this machine to play around with, and we developed three different basic pasta recipes, including a Paleo Pasta and a Gluten Free Pasta. Pasta for all! We have not tried these recipes using any other pasta machines. They might work. If you're looking for pasta recipes by hand, here is our basic pasta recipe and our basic gluten free pasta recipe. Philips has generously offered an Avance Pasta Maker to one lucky winner! We'll pair that machine with a selection of flours for making the best homemade pasta ever (winner will choose their preference: paleo, gluten free, regular)! To enter, find the widget below and follow the basic prompts. We'll select one lucky winner from all who enter by 11:59 pm on 2/27/2018. This contest is open to US residents only. Read on for recipes!

Pasta using Philips Avance

Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 4-8 minutes, depending on noodle shape | Makes 300 g fresh pasta (about 2 entrée-size servings)

Select noodle shape of choice and attach to machine following manufacturer’s instructions.

Place all purpose flour in the Philips Avance mixing compartment. Whisk together egg and water until thoroughly combined.

Select program 1 and press start. Slowly pour egg mixture into the opening in the lid. Pasta dough will begin to form and noodles will appear within a few minutes. Cut pasta to preferred size. Toss fresh pasta in a small amount of all purpose flour to avoid sticking.

When ready to cook pasta, bring a large pot of heavily salted water to a rolling boil. Carefully place pasta in the boiling water a cook until done, about 4-5 minutes for spaghetti, 6-8 minutes for fettuccine and penne. Baked lasagna does not require pre-cooking fresh noodles.

My family loves my homemade pasta that I make by hand. Yes, it is time consuming and downright frustrating at times to get the right balance so my pasta has the right consistency. It would be wonderful to win the Philips Avance pasta maker to try out the 3 recipes provided above.

For anyone who read the article and sees my comments. Use semolina flour instead of all purpose. I don’t know why the recipe they show calls for all purpose. Your pasta will come out much better semolina flour. I have this machine, and I use Bob’s red Mill semolina flour and the pasta comes out absolutely fantastic.

Hi Tara, I would assume it would work very similarly. Double check the manufacturer guidelines for specific instructions.

If you use Bob's Semolina flour are the measurements and ingredients the same.
    Thanks

Yes, you could sub in Semolina Flour where the recipe calls for All Purpose Flour. Enjoy! :)

What if the two eggs for the Paleo pasta doesn't equal the liquid ingredients for the 300g of fresh pasta? Do you level it up with water?
    Reply
    1. Whitney Barnes
Hi Frances, with the Paleo Flour no extra liquid is needed - just the two eggs called for. Enjoy!

Hi Jenny - We don't have a recipe for vegan pasta, but would recommend trying with aquafaba or a flaxseed egg replacement.

I’ve always wanted to make homemade pasta. But I don’t know what machine to buy. It’s been difficult to find a gluten free pasta recipes.
    - Does your pasta recipes have the same texture as regular pasta?
    - If you don’t have a pasta machine can you use this recipe?
    - will this recipe work on Phillips compact machine?

Hi Bonnie! Gluten free pasta has a bit of a different texture than wheat based pasta. It's less stretchy/chewy and more delicate. If you’re looking for pasta recipes by hand, here is our basic gluten free pasta recipe. We only tested this recipe on this specific Philips Pasta Maker.

Could beet juice, spinach juice, etc be used instead of water for different colored/flavored GF pastas?

Trying to make pasta using the Paleo recipe and it ends up two wet in the machine. Won't extrude the pasta after mixing. I tried using AP flour and Phillips recipe and the pasta came out great. I even weighed the Paleo flour before mixing. Could my eggs be too large or is there a liquid measurement on the eggs? I really want this recipe to work. Thanks

Hi, I tried making a second batch of pasta but it did not extrude much. Do I have to wash and dry the machine all over again for a bigger batch?

Hi! Maybe so - we recommend contacting the maker of your pasta machine, they'll be better equipped to answers this type of question.

There's a recipe-breaking mistake on this page. The first recipe above, with all purpose flour, omits xanthan gum. The Bob's 1-to-1 flour has xanthan gum in it already, but the all purpose does not. We tried the recipe anyway because all purpose was the one the store had, and the first try yielded terrible results. I added two teaspoons of Bob's xanthan gum for the second try, and it worked perfectly.

Hi Tom - the first recipe listed calls for our Unbleached White All Purpose Flour, not our Gluten Free All Purpose Flour. You're right though—if using the Gluten Free All Purpose Flour, it will benefit greatly from the addition of Xanthan Gum.

I have recently started buying Bob's Flour. I am looking forward to trying more products. I have this Machine and it is wonderful. If I win this, I will send it to my daughter and recommend we start making Pasta together as her and her children all need to eat gluten free. This would make life so much easier for her being a new mother in the last 3 years with 2 children one 3 and the other just over one now. I think she would love this and Bob's products. Thank you kindly for the contest. I wish everyone luck.
