Our family likes to have fun casual meals sometimes. We do heavy hors d'oeuvres while playing cards pretty often. This Gluten Free Blooming Onion recipe has become a favorite in our home . . . Gluten Free Bloomin Onion This is not exactly like the one you find in a steakhouse, but more of its own thing. The onion bakes into this super soft, deliciously creamy sweet morsel tucked into a delectably crisp savory crust. MMMMmmmmm . . . Gluten Free Blooming Onion I cut the onion into wedges and enjoy it with a huge vegetable platter with hummus. I also highly recommend serving this onion with a nicely grilled steak and a side salad. Trust me . . . if you love onions and you love socca, you will love this Blooming Onion! Gluten Free Bloomin Onion

Gluten Free Blooming Onion

Makes 1
  • 2/3 cup Garbanzo Bean Flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Seasoned Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 Large Vidalia Onion
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Liberally spray a round cake pan or cast iron skillet with olive oil spray. (I used cast iron for a crispier crust on the bottom). In a mixing bowl, whisk together the garbanzo flour, baking powder and seasoned salt. Next add the vinegar and water to the flour mixture; mix well to combine. Set batter aside while you cut the onion. The batter should be thick and not really pourable. To cut the onion, using a large knife, slice from the top center of the onion down to the core, but don't cut through. Turn the onion a half turn and repeat this until you have cut the onion into 4 quarters keeping the core intact. Cut each quarter into thirds. You will have twelve pieces. Now, gently separate the pieces into petals. Once open, place the onion on the prepared pan. Now, scoop the batter on top of the onion, making sure you get it between the petals. You may need to use your fingers to get the batter between all the nooks and crannies. Place the onion in the oven, bake for 20 minutes, then loosely cover with aluminum foil and bake an additional 15 minutes or until the onion is cooked and golden brown. Note: ***This also works really well in an air fryer!
