Hi Joseph,
Thank you for your question. While you may want to speak with a medical professional for advice on which oats would be a good fit for your specific dietary needs, generally, plain instant oats can raise blood sugar faster than other oat types, but they are not the same thing as flavored packets which may have a lot of extra added sugar.
Plain instant oats break down faster when digested because they're rolled very thin and flat. This processing makes them digest faster, which can raise blood sugar more quickly than Steel Cut or regular Old Fashioned Rolled Oats. Instant oat packets often contain added sugar/brown sugar, flavorings, or fruit and this added sugar is what may cause bigger blood sugar spikes than just plain instant oats alone.
Steel Cut Oats, Thick Rolled Oats, or Old Fashioned Rolled Oats may be good alternatives for slower digestion and may cause lower spikes than both plain instant oats or instant oat packets with added ingredients.
I can't find out some basic info ANYWHERE! I keep hearing that instant oats turn to sugar/glucose and give you sugar spikes. Are THESE instant oats going to do that or are they talking about those quaker instant oats packets?
