All of a sudden your wheat bran is too finely ground. Why did you change?

MarstallerCarolyn Reed

I've been adding bran to my morning meal for probably 40 years.
I agree with Carolyn, the last two bags of Bob's Red Mill bran is much much finer than usual.
This is also making it less effective in aiding digestion.
This is on top of the fact that within the last couple of years there isn't nearly as much product in the bag as there was for years prior.
Seriously this is a by-product of producing wheat and there is obviously shrink-flation happening with this product as well.
Time for me to look into options other than your product.
Thank you.

We have not changed our Wheat Bran, and the weight of the product will still correspond to the amount in the bag. The consistency may vary a bit from lot to lot, and we apologize if it is finer than normal. If you need more assistance, please reach out to our team at customerservice@bobsredmill.com, and they would be happy to assist further.

I absolutely need to eat wheat bran for a healthy intestinal balance. I do make bran muffins, however, I would like vary my options. Some sources say that raw wheat bran is safe to eat as is - i.e. sprinkled on cold cereal. Other sources recommend that it be toasted or heated to kill bacteria. I am confused and respect your insight on this dilemma. Is your wheat bran safe to eat without cooking it? Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts on this. Doreen

Great question, Doreen! Our Wheat Bran has not undergone a validated kill step (meaning it has not been cooked, pasteurized, or otherwise processed so as to eliminate or reduce to safe levels potential bacterial growth). For this reason, we suggest toasting the wheat bran before using or otherwise using it in a way that it is baked or cooked before eating. There are instructions on the back of the package for toasting.

Does wheat bran have betaine in it? If so how much? Thank you.

AshleyBoone

Thank you for your question! While we don’t test our wheat bran for betaine content, so we don’t have information on specific amounts, wheat bran is generally considered a good source of betaine along with other whole grains like quinoa or amaranth.

Please no guessing. I put your wheat bran on my top of my soup. But if I was to put your wheat bran into my soup, freeze the soup portions and then heat up the soup with your wheat bran mixed in, am I going to lose any nutritional value.
Thank you,
Bob

janis

recipe on your box how many grams of wheat bran per muffin??

Whitney Barnesjanis

Hi Janis - there's a recipe for Molasses Bran Muffins on our bags of Wheat Bran. The recipe calls for 1 cup (60 g) and makes 12 muffins. 60/12 would equal 5 g of Wheat Bran per muffin.
