These humble legumes taste great and offer a wealth of terrific health benefits. At Bob's Red Mill, we select our soybeans from only the finest crops available. Soybeans are native to East Asia and for over 5,000 years have been a vital protein source in the Orient. By the first century AD, soybean cultivation had spread to many countries including Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and India. In the early 1800s, trade ships returning home from the East introduced soybeans to America. Today many countries around the world depend on soybeans as an important source of dietary protein.

Soybeans contain complete plant protein with all the amino acids essential to human nutrition. They rank right up there with meat and dairy products in the protein department, with very little saturated. They also contain calcium and dietary fiber, which are sorely lacking in American diets.
Soybeans are a good source of B vitamins and minerals including manganese, phosphorus, and potassium. They are also are rich in isoflavones which are believed to have a significant impact on disease prevention.

Soybeans, always a popular natural food, are used in a multitude of ways including tofu, miso, tempeh and soy milk. Cooked soybeans can be used as an ingredient in soups, sauces, salads and stews. You can also add puréed soybeans to bread and cake recipes for a nutritional kick.
