Rolled Spelt Flakes are made from whole grain spelt berries. Use them for a delightfully nutty whole grain hot breakfast cereal, or as a substitute for rolled oats in breads and cookies.


Savor the whole grain goodness of spelt, an ancient relative of durum wheat that originated in the Near East over 8,000 years ago. This heirloom grain later spread throughout Europe, becoming especially popular in Germany, where it was farmed throughout the Middle Ages. Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Rolled Spelt Flakes makes a wonderful hot cereal. Spelt has a unique nutty flavor and because of its high water solubility, its vital nutrients are quickly absorbed into the body. Spelt has never been hybridized, so it has retained many of its original characteristics from antiquity, including complex flavor and whole-grain nutrition. Spelt is unusual because it can be more easily digested than other forms of wheat and many people with wheat intolerances have been able to tolerate spelt. Spelt is not gluten free, however. High in fiber and a good source of iron and manganese, our rolled spelt flakes are incredibly nutritious. Rolled Spelt Flakes make a delightfully nutty flavored hot breakfast cereal.     I decided to try the rolled spelt to have something different. I am on a high fiber diet, and the spelt fits right in. It takes a little longer to cook than rolled oats, but the taste is very good. I added some wheat germ for more fiber, and Scottish oats for a bit of creaminess. I cooked the grains in rice milk with some currants, and added raw honey at the end for sweetener. This fills me up

    We are big breakfast eaters and this fits the bill. I make my own bread and can fruit every summer, so this fits right into our diet very well.
