Basic Cooking Instructions for Thick Rolled Oats

  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 cup Oats, Rolled, Thick

Directions

Bring water and salt to a boil. Add thick rolled oats, reduce heat, and cook 10-20 minutes (depending on the consistency you desire). Stir occasionally. Cover and remove from heat and let stand a few minutes.

Microwave Instructions: In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup oats and 1-1/2 cups water. Cover and microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes.

Alternative Method for Microwave: First, bring one cup of water to a boil in microwave (approximately 2 minutes). Next add 3/4 cup of oats to boiling water and cook at 70% for 1.5 minutes. Finally, stir and cook at 70% for 1.5 minutes and let stand for one minute, serve and enjoy.

Use less water makes the oats a little chewey not so mushy. Then when ready to eat put on a little butter and brown sugar. MMM good.
