  1. For a delicious and nutritious hot breakfast cereal bring 3 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt to a boil. Add 1 cup Barley Grits/Meal and turn heat down. Cover and cook for about 8 - 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with milk and honey. Makes enough for 4. Add almost any fruit or nuts to your cereal to increase nutrition and make your morning even better.





    Single Serving Instructions:



    Bring 3/4 cup water to a boil (with a pinch of salt, if desired). Add 1/4 cup cereal, reduce heat to low, cover and let cook to desired consistency, 5 - 7 minutes. Makes about 2/3 - 3/4 cup serving.





    Microwave Instructions:



    In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup cereal and 3/4 cup water (add a pinch of salt, if desired). Microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes. Let stand for 2 minutes. Makes one serving (2/3 to 3/4 cup).





    Slow Cooker Instructions:



    Combine 1 cup cereal with 2-1/4 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt in slow cooker. Cook on low heat for 1-1/2 hours. If possible, stir occasionally. Serves 4.
