Stove top cooking instructions:

For a savory hot breakfast cereal bring 3-1/4 cups water and 1/2 teaspoon salt to a boil. Stir in 1 cup cereal and immediately turn heat to very low, continuing to stir until cereal and water are blended. Cover and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Makes 3-1/2 cups (4 servings). Bring 3/4 cup water and a pinch of salt to a boil. Add 1/4 cup dry cereal, reduce heat to very low and let cook to desired consistency, about 7 - 10 minutes. Makes about 3/4 cup.

Microwave cooking instructions:

In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup cereal, a pinch of salt and 3/4 cup water. Cover and microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring often. Let sit for 2 minutes. Makes 1 serving (3/4 cup).

I adore BRM's mighty tasty cereal!! I prefer to make savory rather than sweet - follow the above instructions and stir in about 2 Tbsp cream cheese and a drizzle of olive oil. Sometimes I toss in fresh thyme too and voila! A delicious savory porridge :)

This stuff is really yummy, filling and healthy. I love it with toasted pecans, a small pat of butter, a splash of milk and maple syrup. Makes cold mornings much warmer :)

Help, we are having a terrible time getting this cereal to cook with any consistency. What's the trick. We mix it 3 to 1, with a little more water than 3 to 1. Some mornings it works and other mornings the cereal is way way to thick. What are we doing wrong?

This is due to differences in heat transfer. If you want to have more consistency in cooking this cereal, you will need to cook it the same way every time. This includes using the same equipment and monitoring temperatures, times, and measurements.

I tried Mighty tasty today for the first time. I added brown sugar/ cinnamon and fresh apples. Loved it. I made some for my daughter, who love those little packets of hot cereal. Well, she even like it. she put brown sugar and dried cranberries on hers and loved it.

I am brand new to GF and feel so much better . I made the mighty tasty hot cereal . It was so good but it makes so much. Can I use the leftovers like a polenta?

Bob's Red Mill April 23, 2014
As our Gluten Free Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal will thicken as it cools, it is possible to use it in the same manner as polenta. Keep in mind that this is not a preparation we have tested.

Hi, Can I cook more and leave it overnight in the refrigerator? In the morning I can add some warm milk. Pls advise!

Unfortunately, we have not tested this preparation method with our Gluten Free Mighty Tasty Hot Cereal. This cereal has the tendency to thicken and may be difficult to incorporate the milk once chilled.

If you find that your Gluten Free Might Tasty Hot Cereal is too dry, you may be interested in adding additional water to the recipe.

I am on a restricted diet and I would like to know if the calories are for dry or cooked cereal?
*****
Bob's Red Mill October 7, 2014
The calories listed on the package are for 1 serving of dry cereal. Keep in mind that the calories for 1 serving will be the same as the calories for 1 serving of dry as our cooking instructions ask for items (water and salt) that will not increase the calorie count.
