Chana Dal with Smoked Tomatoes and Cauliflower

  • 1 Black pepper
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Onion
  • 2 tsp Curry Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic minced
  • 1 Tbsp Ginger minced
  • 1/2 tsp Black Mustard Seeds
  • 2 cups Smoked Plum Tomatoes peeled and diced
  • 2 cups Califlower chopped
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup Chana Dal Beans


Combine the Chana Dal, water, onion and curry powder in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 45 minutes, until beans are soft.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic, ginger, mustard seeds and sauté for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes and cauliflower and toss to coat. Stir in the Chana Dal, salt and cayenne. Blend well and season to taste with black pepper.

Makes 4 Servings.
