'Nessie's Delight

Contender for the 2012 Spar for the Spurtle. This recipe was not tested by Bob’s Red Mill.

Oats

  • 1 cup Steel Cut Oats *
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 Tbsp Molasses
  • 2 Tbsp Heavy Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Buttermilk
  • 2 Breakfast Sausage

Raisin Sauce

  • 1/2 cup RAISINS - NATURAL UNSULFURED
  • 1/4 cup Water (hot)
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Onion Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce (to taste)
  • 1 pinch Black Pepper crushed

Directions

Oats

Step 1

Simmer oats and water for 20 minutes in a sauce pan over low heat.

Step 2

While oats are simmering, brown your sausage, slicing into bite sized pieces when cooked through. (We used Meat a la Mode's oatmeal raisin spice sausage made with pork and turkey because it mimics the ingredients in Scottish haggis & perfectly complemented the oatmeal!)

Raisin Sauce

Step 1

Separately, mash together the ingredients for the raisin sauce with a mortar and pestle, ricer, or fork (this can also be done in a food processor if available).

Step 2

Add molasses, cream, and buttermilk to cooked oats and stir well.

Serve your oatmeal topped with sausage and drizzled with raisin sauce -- 'Nessie would approve!

Serves 2.
