Double Scotch Fling OatsContributed by: Frances BenthinContender for the 2012 Spar for the Spurtle. This recipe was not tested by Bob’s Red Mill.
DirectionsStep 1Place cherries in a bowl and pour the Scotch over them; set aside.Step 2Mix orange juice, water, sugar, butter and salt together in a medium size sauce pan and bring to a boil. Stir in oats, reduce heat to simmer and cook for 7-8 minutes, or until oats are done and thickened. Remove from heat. Stir in cherries and almonds.Step 3Divide oats into 4 bowls. Top with Devonshire cream (recipe follows), sprinkle with a few more almonds and top with a cherry. Serve for breakfast or brunch. Makes a great dessert on a cold night!Serves 4. Step 4Devonshire cream: 1 cup whipping cream, whipped, 1 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg and a splash of Scotch whiskey.
