Hearty Wild Rice Hash

  • 1 cup 3 Grain Wild Rice Blend
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper (Medium Grind)
  • 1/4 tsp Rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp Marjoram
  • 1/2 tsp Sage (Ground)
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 Tbsp Basil
  • 1 Tbsp Parsley Flakes
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp Corn Starch
  • 1 cup 3/4 Vegetable or Chicken Broth
  • 1 stalk Celery chopped ()
  • 1/2 pound Mushrooms sliced ()
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper chopped ()
  • 1 Onion chopped ()
  • 2 cups 1/2 Water
  • 12 oz Ground Beef or Turkey

Directions

Place the rice blend in a saucepan with 2 cups of the water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and cook 45 minutes. Lest rest for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, place the remaining water in a large non-stick frying pan. Add the onion, bell pepper, mushrooms and celery. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Mix the chicken broth, cornstarch, soy sauce and the seasonings in a seperate bowl. Add to vegetable mixture while stirring. Cook and stir until mixture boils and thickens. Add ground turkey and cooked rice mixture. Cook, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes.

Makes 6 servings.

I made this when my son had a soda loving friend over and thought it might be prejudged. I used turkey and skipped the mushrooms. The boys gobbled it up and ask for seconds, I was amazed. I will make this again. The only down side is it takes over an hour to prepare.
