Chocolate Chip Applesauce Muesli Cookies

This recipe is our low-fat version of Muesli cookies which can now be found on the Old Country Muesli Cereal package.


Sift flour, baking soda, and salt together and set aside. Blend applesauce, sugar and vanilla together. Beat in egg. Add flour mixture and mix. Stir in Muesli and chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoons on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes. Makes 24 cookies.

I really enjoy this recipe! We made it first with butter as we were out of applesauce, but the applesauce is the way to go!! I have always heard not to lower the butter in recipe under half, but these do NOT need it and are a great low-fat treat.

Pretty darn good! The cookies are moist, light, and airy. Next time I'd refrigerate the dough for a bit to allow the oats to better absorb the moisture. The dough was thinner than a typical oatmeal dough but it doesn't spread too much when baking.

I just made these cookies for the first time and they are AMAZING! My husband is trying to reduce his sugar and calorie intake and these cookies are perfect. I substituted dark choc chips for regular and we both agreed they were great that way.

Oh no no no. It has a weird sponginess. The nuts take on a hard chewiness, and not in a good way. They only get wedged into the teeth. My only positive is that they didn't cost much to make.

These have great texture. I added flax for more fat (and nutrition). Hard to believe no butter. You'd never know!

Have made these twice now. The first time I didnt let the dough set and baked right away. They were spongy and mushy. After 2 days of having the dough in the fridge I baked the rest of the batch and OMG so yummy! Just made enough for the family for weeks! The kids LOVE THEM!

Bring back the butter! We tried the applesauce variation but the cookies came out with a cake like texture.
We will stick with the old version thank you!
